Unhappy "Settings" area can't be accessed to ?!

Hi I'm new to the site and as of now I don't know much about Wii hacking.

I have a japanese/chinese? wii (Yes, a mistake I know, since it doesn't support english in the menu)

My brother has tried to put and play a dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2. I wasn't in that room at that time. Afterwards we couldn't play most of the backed up games at all :
-Most games give us the Error screen that tells us to turn the Wii off.
- Super Smash Brother's Browl, Start working at first, but after "loading" the screen turn blank white (and after a couple minutes it turns pitch black).
- Wii sports, Warioware - smooth moves, and the mentioned dragonball game work fine.

My brother later told me that there was a promote screen (in japanese) before the dragon ball game started, he pushed one of the button, and then he saw a blue loading Bar.
It was Probably installing a new Firmwire for the wii or some sort of an update.

When we later tried to access the settings screen (pressing the circular button at the bottom at the main-menu , and pressing the right button on the following screen), we got to a wierd error screen that looks like an Opera explorer error screen (The one when it can't find the site).

Before that Incident the settings screen was accessable.

What exactly happened to our Wii ? What can we do to fix it? (The rest of the menu is still accessable)

Also is it possible to update/change our current firmware to a one that supports English ?

I appreciate your help

EDIT : If it helps, the site the opera screen "tried to enter" was JP/JP/JPN/index01.html.

You have just officially semi-bricked your wii....As stated above you can download the disc to unbrick, or you can wait for a NTSC-J game to come out with newer firmware....

Thanks for the help. I Believe I've found a fix file with a newer Wii firmwire (3.00) , but I won't be able to test it until I get my hands on a Game Cube controller.

However, it also upgrades the wii-key firmwire to 1.2 and I'm not sure what chip I have (I assume I do have one)...
