Real retail Gamecube games no longer work. Why?

Hey everyone I hope you're enjoying your softmods. Because this just doesn't make sense to me.

"Unable to read disc", is the message I get when loading games from the Disc Channel. I want to know Why my retail pressed Gamecube disks no longer work in my Wii??? I just played one of my Gamecube games a couple days ago (no scratches & cleaned). I also played a retail Wii game yesterday that I borrowed. It worked at the time but I no longer have it to test with. I've also tried a retail pressed movie dvd. It doesn't work. I'm looking for a real solution. Not a work-around.

Here's a little run down of what I've installed. BootMii-IOS & backed up my Nand, HBC, Cios 38 r14 Ios249, Clicked in HackMii installer to install DVDX but I don't see it anywere on my system, Preloader, Neogamma R8 b7, Used Firmware Updater 4.1 to update from 3.3U to 4.1U, cIOS 222/223 & 202, Configurable USB Loader 50cfat, Of course I have Wad Manager 1.4 and TruckaBug Restorer v1.0. I installed and used Dop-IOS to install the cIOS (w/ hash check) so that I could install the latest Shop Channel by its self. And then updated my HBC after all that. But only installed the update for HBC and DVDX. I did not reinstall BootMii. This is all sitting on and loaded off my 2gig SD card.

I have some games that I play off my usb HD and 2 retail Gamecube game. A work-around is not acceptable to me when the games were readable and played a day or two ago. Anyone reading this that can offer knowledgeable help, please feel free to respond. Thank you.

How ironic, I can't use software I bought in a store but could find any title I wanted and play it off a burnt disk or a usb drive. Lol.
This frustration is making me want to go back to playing on my moded 360.

I'm having the same problem myself, and am unable to find a solution. Bump.

I even went as far as to buy a Nintendo brand Wii lens cleaning kit. It made no difference.
I've sense got a hold of some retail Wii games and they all work. But my Gamecube games still aren't being recognized in the Disc Channel.

I gotta say I'm a little disappointed in the lack of support/help at this "source" forum. I don't think for a second that you and I are the first two/only people to have this problem. Someone knowledgeable has to have an explanation why.

I'm inclined to think that whatever IOS or IOSs that are used by the system to read Gamecube games, was written over or damaged while softmoding the Wii to begin with. But I don't know for sure. That's why I'm here asking.

Sorry dude, it's never happened to me. I've followed all the tutorials, I've softmodded tons of Wiis and I've never had this problem.

This won't help your main problem, but I notice you don't have a cmIOS installed. These are required for backup GC games, so if you plan on backing up any, you will need this.

I would have thought that you would have this problem if you installed a mios and a GC backup launcher. I honestly never heard of this myself. So everysingle one of your retail GC discs dont work? I have seen people having problems with no audio/video when running an retail GC disc from the disc channel after they have softmodded their console and installed mios and GB backup launcher, but never heard of your problem.

I´ve got the same problem...:mad: I´ve softmoded my virgin wii 4.1U, LU64, with the tutorial: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html... and after that i can´t play original GC games by the disc channel... This channel could not read the disk....:mad:... I don´t have any GC loader, just the apps that are on the tutorial.... Someone could help us to solve this problem???

You're right. I don't have cMios installed. And don't want to until I know what's going on with my system. I don't want to make things worse than they are. I do plan on playing backups of my Gamecube games down the road. Seeing as I have a usb hard drive and some games I'd like to keep in mint condition. Eg, "The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition". But the main reason I haven't installed a cMIOS is because, with a retail disk, I don't think I should have too.

I would like to know how You softmod Wiis? Your personal process? What software (version#), and what order you install them. Maybe a PM would be cool, so that I could compare what you do to what I did.

Yes. Every one of my Gamecube games aren't recognized in the Disc Channel. I've also heard of some people having those issues with the audio or video. But even in those instances the disk is being recognized and loaded. Mine just says "Unable to read disk". The thing that bugs me the most is that these Gamecube games worked fine before I softmoded my system. I'm almost curtain the lack of updated tutorial posts is the root of our problem.

Possibly a IOS needed to load Gamecube games is overwritten or damaged when softmoding. Or outdated/incompatible when doing the system menu update. Again, I don't know. These are just theories.

The tutorial on this site for softmoding Wiis with system menu 3.1 - 4.1 suggests to enable the option in Priiloader to region free Wii games. Fair enough. But for me and my system, it prevents the Disc Channel from loading/reading Gamecube games. As soon as I turned region free off, the Disc Channel started recognizing my Gamecube games again.

My Priiloader installation states v0.3 (r32), IOS v60 & System menu v449.

Have fun playing the retail Gamecube games you own, again ;)

Man you´re right.... The region free option on disable the wii to read original GC games... I just turn it off and my retail games worked again....

Thanks for your post. I was having the same problem and almost just excepted not playing my old gamecube games in order to play with usb loader gx. You saved my games becuase I almost gave them away.
