I setup the HBC according to the Team Twiizer site. The apps are setup according to your instructions. I'll be home in about 2 hours so then I can get started.

HBC is installed. Is this what I'm suppose to be following?

    1. create backup of Nand with BOOTMII

    2. Download IOS15 v257, IOS15 v512 and IOS36 v3351 with NUSD and place the created wads to the root of the SD Card.

    3. Run Trucha bug restorer and:

    * Skip IOS reload by pressing "B" when asked to select an IOS to reload.
    * Select downgrade IOS15 to v257
    * Restart TBR and select IOS15 when asked which IOS to reload (DON'T hit "B" this time)
    * Select IOS36 menu and make set the bottom option to match to top 2 above it, then hit "A" at the top to install to slot 36. (also doing this to slot 236 is optional. I prefer to put IOS36 back to normal after this but keep IOS236. the problem is, is that AnyRegion Changer needs IOS36 with trucha bug)
    * Restart TBR again and skip IOS reload like before. Then restore IOS15 back to normal (not necessarily required, but let's just do it to be safe)
What is this slot 236? I was doing fine up until that part. But is said it's optional so I continued.

I stopped here and exited. I kept thinking of that 236. I also remembered that wad 1.4 stuff I read and got a bit panicked I guess. I know I don't have it.

I'm going to go ahead and do all of the steps and hope for the best.

*****As I just said, don't worry about slot 236. Also, don't worry about the wad stuff. Just make sure not to install System Menu 3.2. Just follow the instructions to the "T" and you will be alright.

Clarification for "slot" 236: Slot 236 is just that... a "Slot" and with the number 236 as the reference. The actual IOS taking up that slot in this situation the way I have described it would be IOS36. Just forget slot 236 if you still don't get it. In retrospect, it was dumb of me to mention that since it's not necessary really. Ideally it's just "better" for the Wii to have as many "normal" IOS' between IOS9 and IOS70 as possible, with the only "modified" ones in the range of 200+.

IOS' can be understood as such... IOS' are images of the Wii operating system in a folder (or slot). Different games, channels, programs, etc. require different versions of IOS' in these different slots. Most "unofficial" stuff uses slots in the range of 200+ (for instance cIOS38v14: a very common Custom IOS, uses IOS38 as an "example" but is installed to slot 249). Most channels, games, system Menus, etc. use slots between 9 and 70, which in these cases correspond to their actual slot. Up until 70, each IOS has been added chronologically, more or less, in correspondance to the raising of their slot number. IOS' ending in 0's have tended to be the IOS' for System Menus. IOS70 = 4.2; IOS60 = 4.0 & 4.1; IOS50 = 3.4; IOS30 = 3.0-3.3 (with some revision changes in between); with the exception of the Korean System Menu v3.5 which was IOS52.

When I run DOP I have 2 choices.
    IOS: 36
    IOS36 (r3351) w/Fakesign

I chose IOS: 36, went to System Menu> Install 4.2, North America (U). I got an eorror (ret = -6)?

I went back into AnyRegion to check the settings and they were:
    - English
    - Japan
    - Japan
    - 49

I changed them again to all English but set Region Menu is still on Japan. I get an error when I save. Should I just start from the beginning?

I figured one part out but I'm still getting errors and black screens freeze up and have to reboot. I'm going to stop here for the night and eat something. I've been at this for a while now. I appreciate all the help and patience.

ddnat: sorry for wasting your time...
but I still can't find IOS 15 v512; I only can find v523 using NUSD (Jackal5: that is a program for PC only, it emulates de Wii and connects to Internet to download "official" Nintendo stuff. You don't need to inlcude it on the SD card).
And yet another question ddnat: you don't really put IOS36 back to normal at the end, like you did in the previous guide (and with IOS15 in this guide), do you?

ddanat: I put all those wads according to TBR 1.1 readme.txt (quote):
    "Hint:
Get the required IOS files as wads on sd card before starting TBR. You can easiliy download them with NUS Downloader
(see WiiBrew.org for download link). The names TBR expects are:
    IOS15-64-v257.wad
    IOS15-64-v523.wad
    IOS36-64-v3351.wad
    IOS37-64-v3869.wad
    "

    (again IOS15 V523 but no 512).

Thanks for your patience. I promise I'll try to take some time getting to know wii hacking background before I continue, then come back to you. I'll try to calm down, and do it when I have enogh knowledge.

OK. I'm not sure how you GOT to the -106, but chances are something didn't go as planned with Trucha Bug Restorer. -106 is a write error, that means that the "Trucha Bug" is not there. That means you didn't install IOS36 with fakesigning properly.

Yes, I can see how that can be confusing but you did correctly. IGNORE "IOS36 (r3351) w/Fakesign" in Dop-IOS MOD. It's a good idea, but a shitty implementation taken straight from the source code of TBR! Ignore it and just use TBR for getting our IOS' set up.

The error you got in ARC was probably -1017 or -106 again. That means the same thing: TBR wasn't done right. Try not to just keep going after something goes wrong. Whatever didn't work won't just magically have fixed itself later down the road.

Do ME a favor now =). Log what you're doing. Log everything: every button press you make and what you see on the screen then post it here in a quote if you keep getting errors. Hell, you could even take a video of it with your camera and post it on youtube. But something's just not being down correctly at the section for installing IOS36 w/ trucha bug.

1: You don't need IOS37. I already said that. Please read my messages more thoroughly. This isn't a big mistake, but missing anything could be potentially dreadful for your wii. But I do gotta give you props on the whole reading extra information. You're tryin

2: yes, v523 is correct. I made a typo. both keys are right next to each other and I F-ed up. I changed this in my original post a moment ago.

    3: Good man. =)

I'm going to check all of my software versions today while I'm at work. And I was planning to log all of my errors and list the choices with the ones that I make in green. As far as recording, I actually just setup a Hauppauge PVR for recording PS3 footage last week. I haven't tried any thing more than a few test videos but no editing yet.

Step 1: Run Trucha bug restorer:

    * Skip IOS reload by pressing "B" when asked to select an IOS to reload. (actually, it only ask to "load", not "reload")

    * Select downgrade IOS15 to v257 (All runs fine)

    * Restart TBR and select IOS15 (pushes left on D-pad until I reach IOS15). When I Push "A" I get a screen with a bunch of numbers. No function of the Wiimote work. I have to push Reset button to get the thing to "Reload" back to HBC. I have to restart TBR again. If I select IOS15 again the same thing happens. If I choose "IOS36" and move on, I can get to the option to "Install menu IOS36".

    * Select IOS36 menu and make set the bottom option to match to top 2 above it.

    Installed patched ISO36
    Install IOS to slot: 36
    patch hash check (trucha): yes
    patch ES_Identifying: yes
    patch nand permissions: yes

Go up to Installed patched ISO36, hit "A" to install to slot 36. Stuff runs then, hit "A" again and I get this:

    ES_AddTittleStart returned: -2011
You need to use an IOS with Trucha bug.
That's what the IOS15 downgrade is good for...
    IOS36 installation failed.
    Press any button to exit

    * Restart TBR again and skip IOS reload like before. Then restore IOS15 back to normal just do it to be safe.

This was the first problem and probably the catalyst. I wasn't changing the IOS36 to IOS15. I've done that and now everything went through. ARC started with no error and I was able to save with no errors. I didn't change the system menu because of the 3.2 stuff but I notice that when I go back in that the menu changes region down there by itself.

DOP was going good until I tried to install the menus but I figured out the problem. My Wii wasn't online. It's new and I started this stuff right out of the box and needed to setup the wifi. Once that was done DOP did it's thing.

Now I have an English start up page and my channel titles are in English but my channels themselves are mostly still Japanese. I setup the Mii thing and made my avatar but most other channels are unavailable. I can't access the store because I need to agree to something in the settings that I can't access. That's where I stopped for now.

Yes, because we changed the region of the system menu through Dop-IOS MOD. ARC picks up on this after running it later.

Yeah, again, I assumed people have internet set up on their wii. Sorry about that. For me that's a given usually. The reason why I like Dop-IOS MOD, because it downloads stuff straight from Nintendo and applies them cleanly. There's no middle-man that could potentially have edited the IOS in that case.

OK, I think I missed something there. I don't know why it's like that, but you need to delete the channels which aren't taking the language change first then reinstall them with Dop-IOS MOD. You can try deleting them like normal with the channels manager thing, or you can use a program like Any Title Deleter (I personally prefer Any Title Deleter MOD v6 because it has a database with which you can see what title's what)

You have to remove the wii's shop channel account before changing the shop's region. You'll need to use ARC again, set it back, go to the settings and remove the Wii's account, use ARC to put the shop channel code to the desired one. Then it should work right.

Ah! I see. I've seen the region changing Youtube video and it didn't look like he was doing any channel deleting. but he was using 3.2. I've got 4.2 so I guess things are much different. I'll try removing the channels tonight when I get home this evening.
