    Good job!

I plan to do this next week when I my Wii arrives. It's also a Japanese model and I want to change the region to 4.2U. Did you load everything onto an SD card all at once?

I need to download everything I'm going to need so i can be ready for this. I hope I can get it done without bricking my new Wii.

well i have about 3 cards but you can dump everything on one if you want to. Follow the great guide on here for 4.2 modding, then follow this guide for region change... Ensure you have all files and that your wii is connected to the internet

Good luck and don`t worry, just be patient and research, sit back breathe etc.

BTW for UK people, if you pre-check the option in Any region changer for the `read agreement option` it works fine with iPlayer download off the official shopping channel You can of course just accept the agreement through WiiConnect24, just remember to check and ensure that Wiiconnect24 is disabled after!

    cheers,

Okay, this is getting out of control. lol. I'm editing my first post to reflect 2 things:
    1. a change in how this should be done
    2. how step 3 should be done (you did well wii666, but I don't like the whole wad manager part anymore)

**That's not correct. If the Wii came with an older version of boot2 from the FACTORY, then you can still use Bootmii/boot2. if it came boot2v4 from factory, then you're screwed

Is the procces so risky (I'm really concerned abot getting a brick) I should wait for AnyRegion changer for 4.2? There will be such version?
**That won't happen most likely. Like I said, this will temporarily cause a semi-brick. That's not bad and easily reversible. Just make sure you fiddle around with the programs WITHOUT making changes and the re-read the steps to make sure you understand what's going one.

Can you be so kind as to describe each step for someone with no experiece at all?
I'm totally lost at the complete step 3, for instance...
**Done. wii666 also did a good job, but my ideology has changed and I don't like wad manager anymore. Dop-IOS MOD is more reliable and easier to use.

**I included a section for the shop. I wasn't sure about the depth of my description, so if you get confused, let me know.

I'll start reading some more stuff, making a list of the apps you all talked about before I start trying anything. Should I just load all of them onto the SD?
**I added a list of applications needed. Yes, you can have everything on the same SD card. Nothing will explode =)

The Wii is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I went out and picked up a 4gb SDHC card today and it's formatted to FAT32. I have downloaded and have folder on the card for:

    Do-IOS MOD v11.2
    NUSD v.13beta
    TBR 1.11
    inSDRoot>apps>ARCmod06_Offline
    Setting_replace

Will I need to also install the HBC? Should I take the contents out of the folders and have them in the root? How will I make a NAND backup?

The more I read about this stuff the more confusing it gets. The sign of old age I guess.

This howto assumes having installed the Homebrew Channel. For it to read programs, the program folders need to be under sd:/apps/

for instance: "sd:/apps/TBR/boot.dol" is something you should see.

I have no clue why you have setting_replace and I've never even used it. Also I don't know why you have ARCmod06_offline. if you look here there's a link for 1.1b. Mod06 has other options that shouldn't be used by beginners and are not included in this howto.

Otherwise it seems ok. For the NAND backup you should install Bootmii either as IOS or as boot2 (boot2 preferred if possible) through the HackMii installer which you should have used to install the Homebrew Channel as well. Once you're in BootMii dumping the NAND is rather self-explanatory.

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to get it together.

The SD card is now looking like this:

    sd:/apps/
    /AnyRegion_Changer/AnyRegion_Changer1.1b.dol
    /Do-IOS MOD/boot.dol
    /NUSD v.13beta/NUSD v.13beta(downloader)
    /TBR/boot.dol
    >/sourcecode
    >readme

Those are the contents of the apps folder now. I'll look for the homebrew channel now.

When you've never done any of this it gets confusing very fast when just about every link you click on is talking about priiloaders, wads, bootmiis, etc. But I'm trying my best so that I don't brick a new import Wii. I want to try to get everything together before it arrives tomorrow.

I'll go and hunt down HBC now. Thanks again.

UPDATE: The SD card is now looking like this:

    sd:
    /boot.elf
    /private (Bannerbomb v2 inside)
    /hackmii_installer_v0.6
    >wiiload
    >CREDITS
    >License
    >readme-BootMii
    >reademe-HBC

    /apps/
    /AnyRegion_Changer/AnyRegion_Changer1.1b.dol
    /Do-IOS MOD/boot.dol
    /NUSD v.13beta/NUSD v.13beta(downloader)
    /TBR/boot.dol
    >/sourcecode
    >readme-TBR

I think that's it for apps. Now to read over the instructions again. They seem fairly easy but it can't hurt to be sure. Tomorrow will tell.

    Thanks ddnat.
The thing here is the Wii came softmoded.
I'm trying to clarify two things before I proceed with your guide:
    - getting used to the Wii hacking world, terminolgy and so (I agree with Jackal 5 it gets completely confusing).
    - trying to know for sure how my wii was softmoded, and what it really has already installed... How can I tell that? Should I follow the 4.2 softmod guide, and do all steps even if I'm repeating what probably someone already did?

Thing is that I'm running all games nicely using Neogama, even PAL games forcing video to be NTSC (I don't have an external USB HDD), and I really don't want to ruin my wii... buy the jap thing is really annoying (hitting a button when you don't really know what you're doing is really frustrating).

Anyway, I'm getting ready with your new guide version... but I can't find IOS15 v512 using NUSD... or you meant IOS15 v523? (anyway I can't find when yoou use it in your guide...

    My SD looks like this:

    /
    IOS15-64-v257.wad
    IOS15-64-v523.wad
    IOS36-64-v3351.wad
    IOS37-64-v3869.wad

    /apps
    /ARC
    AnyRegion_Changer1.1b.dol

    /Dop-IOS MOD
    boot.dol
    icon.png
    meta.xml

    /TBR
    boot.dol
    icon.png
    meta.xml

    Right?

    Thanks a ton really.

elcapitanwii, where did you find those wads? I assumed that they were part of the other programs that was listed.

*My Wii just arrived but I'm at work. I'll get started on this when I get home this evening.

I got those files. I had them in another packet that I downloaded earlier, Softmod. But there is no IOS37-64-v3869.wad. It's IOS38-64-v3610.wad. For now, I have the whole Softmod folder onto the card until I get home.

    holy shit. holy shit.

okay, I need to clearify more than I thought. Sorry for the ambiguity fellas.

Wii Hacking is very confusing at first. Nintendo did the Wii very odd and the way people have to hack the wii is sometimes even more odd.

HBC (Homebrew Channel) from Team Twiizers looks for programs as such: under "sd:/apps/" you have folders for programs. In each folder HBC looks for a boot.dol. if it doesn't find that, it won't recognize the program. The program receives the name from the folder unless there's a certain *.ini file in the folder as well. That doesn't matter though. If the *.dol in the program's folder isn't labeled boot.dol, then rename it to that.

NUSD is a windows application. It's used to download channels, IOS', etc. and can pack them into WADS; a type of archive (more or less like a zip file).

    @elcapitanwii
I don't know why you have IOS37. You don't need it for this howto.

If you need HBC or Bootmii, have the boot.elf/.dol for the hackmii installer in the root of the sd card and the bannerbomb also in place (there are plenty of howto's for that so I won't go into futher detail)

I am quite honestly a little worried that some of you are getting into something a little too far above your understanding of the wii. The probability of messing up the Wii with this guide is minute, however I implore you all to reread the guide several times and make sure you understand everything and have HBC set up prior to starting this guide as well. If possible, try to read up on homebrew at wiibrew.org. there is lots of information there that will answer many questions.

If there are more questions do ask, but do try to read around first before asking.

Good luck and let me know how things turn out for y'all.
