have u tried the mplayer ax as i find it plays no hassle, standard 700mb avi files work sweet 4 me like straight off my usb drive, doesnt require the dvd to spin so must be less strain on the wii , also ax is a channel so can run straight off the menu screen

I don't tend to play mp3 through my TV as it's an old sucky mono TV which needs replacing but to be honest provided it works I'm not too bothered about how it looks. Download Homebrew browser and check the Media options for ideas.

Is there a tutorial on getting SMB Samba wifi setup. I have Mplayer CE working fine, but can't find where to start to get it to access files on PC...

    Thanks

The readme for MplayerCE has a quick bit of info on it.

Enter the IP, share name and other information as per the examples already in the smb.conf file in your folder.

    It's not too hard.

    Setting up SAMBA on Wii

Thanks - that sorted it. For anyone else stuck at getting Wii to connect to PC over wifi (there's not much info about this that I could find), this may help.

This SAMBA (SMB) is the normal Windows file sharing mechanism. So you just have to right click on share directory on your PC and enable "sharing" (I have XP).

On Wii in SDcard in /apps/mplayer ce there is a file called smb.conf.
Edit this with notepad, add the IP address of your PC (I suppose network name if you use DHCP/DNS), the name of the shared directory, don't need full path. Also enter username and password (ie what you log into your PC as).

This makes Mplayer open/files/smb01 point to your shared file.

You can set up several shares in the SMB.conf file.

    I have wii 4.2 Mplayer .76

I does seem to crash fairly often when exiting or cancelling a film - but overall it is pretty cool.

I hope this helps someone and the above is not blatantly obvious to everyone else....
