    Protect wii from being bricked

    Hi All,

I have modded my 4.2U according to Messie's guide up to the point of being able to play burnt games on DVD via NeoGamma. All works well. I now have an external HDD with games on it that I want to start playing. I assume I could use USB Loader GX to play the games. From here though, what would I further need to protect my wii from being bricked if playying any rented games or other download games from the net? Your ideas are appreciated!

    Thanks

your best bet is to install bootmii as boot2 and make a copy of your nand this will allow you to restor your system memory incase of a brick. Download it hear

To install it put the contents on the root of your sd card then click on the little sd card on the main menu and it should pop up saying install boot.elf say yes then follow the onscreen instructions.

hopefully you can install bootmii as boot 2 once this is done shut your wii down then power it back up bootmii should start use the power and reset buttons to navagate through the bootmii menu. scroll all the way to the left then click on that then you will see a picture of a chip with a green arrow clcik on that to make a backup of your nand. once its done copy it to your pc and keep it safe.

Incase of a brick just copy your nand back to your sd card load bootmii up and go the the picture of a chip with a red arrow and restore your nand.

    hope this helped

Thanks for the quick response. I have a NAND saved as an ios. If I ever get bricked would I be able to load HBC to run bootmii?

ilukmv - If you fully brick or banner brick you won't be able to launch HBC or bootmii/IOS unless you also install Priiloader.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Nope. Just once to install and it sits there in your System menu for when you need it.

I tried to install preloader and it stalled on me. I shut down the wii and now when I turn it back on it says "the system files are corrupted" and the writing is chopped up. Am I bricked? What can I do? I did not do step D6 od Messie's guide first (run DOP-IOS MOD V7) or install ios70 patched unrar.

    PLease help???

Why didn't you finish doing the guide? That's the first question I have to pose : P

Are you sure the installation of Preloader stalled? Perhaps you "jumped the gun" and turned it off? Still, try loading Preloader (holding Reset while turning your Wii on) just to see what happens.
