Poor sound quality on Virtual Console games?

Hey guys, this weekend picked up a Wii for the gf and managed to softmod it (4.2) and get it all working nicely with loading iso's from a usb hdd, I also have it setup with a seperate fat32 partition for VC WAD's which is also running good, except for one small issue - The sound quality on all of the games I've tried so far (which are all n64) is pretty crap, and kind of distorted.. I swear that when I used to have a n64 the sound was actually pretty crisp. It's almost as if it's a little choppy/laggy.

I've tried changing the (limited) wii sound options from mono/stereo/surround although this makes no difference.

Has anyone had a similar issue and found a fix for it? Is it as simple as me needing a certain cIOS to address the issue or is it just how games are when ported to the Wii? (I have searched)

Thanks - and I've gotta say this website was a great resource for learning/modding this weekend!

I have noticed the same thing with some n64 games (mario kart, star fox and paper mario) but not with super mario 64 which is a bit odd. I though it might have something to do with converting from ntsc to pal. im going to try finding a pal version of the previous games and see how i go. I have had no problem with newer wiiware games that have been converted though

So i downloaded a different version of paper mario and star fox/lylat wars it didnt say which format they were but since star fox was called lylat wars I assume they were pal to begin with. They both work fine so the only conclusion I can come up with is that the sound distortion has something to do with converting regions
