Having trouble with Super Paper Mario (PAL)

Hey, I know that this game was released ages ago. But a few days ago, my friend "torrented" the game and loaded it on his Wii without much trouble, bear in mind that my friend previously had owned the game, as such there was save data there for him to load by.

However, I started playing it today (both through Configurable USB Loader v.44 and USB Loader r.843), and, regardless of which USB Loader I use, the game crashes during the first cutscene just after showing Bowser's lair. By crash, I mean the game goes black and no longer responds to anything. If I press Home, the menu comes up however if I select "Wii Menu" my Wii freezes, but if I select "Reset" it resets per normal.

Any suggestions would be great and much appreciated : ) Thank you.

EDIT: I've since installed cIOS-38 rev15, Hermes' cIOS 222 v4 (sorry, I'm unfamiliar with Hermes' so sorry if the terminology is wrong) Additionally I've also tried the most recent update of Ultimate USB Loader and still no luck. Any ideas, yet again, would be appreciated : )

How so do I patch it? :S I'll take a google look around, but feel free to reply just in case you beat my googling XD

EDIT: I've googled around, but everywhere I look the main types of patches I see are those for BrickBlockers and UpdateRemovers, however I presumed that since the game loaded to the point that you can create your own game save file, that it would not be any of these two options? The cutscene of which I speak is the cutscene just after you create your save file, hope that alleviates any confusion.

I've just patched the same *.iso twice, once with Ben Lloyd's patcher, and the other with
"bc-gui.exe"... Both of these patched successfully, however I can't transfer them onto my USB. WBFS Manager labels them as "!xt‰“’] 'Ry”c:IеC_{—'s‚HSȍL ‡i\B…6OTNr
    P”/ŤٷbFW$ C‚A*S“@PHe,{|-gn‹^mX"((O%*9*poZ$EZrKKŸF< „ں"2‡!8N<„Š/P†T0zPŒ". Any ideas?

Lol, yerrr... I did research on this and such and every instance I found was all about New Super Mario Bros. Wii (which I also have and had no trouble with, just placed an unpatched ISO onto my USB drive and has loaded perfectly). When I googled the issue, my post on here was the first result... So I'm guessing it's unique XD My friend recently burnt the game onto a DVD-R and told me it works fine there (as his froze as well), so perhaps I'll have to get my hands on a blank DVD XD Thanks anyway : )

As of yet, no. However, later on this week I plan on hiring out the original copy from my local video shop and progress immediately past this cutscene, saving immediately. Then I will test a reload. Additionally, I'll probably rip the game using Configurable USB Loader from the original disc, rather then rely on a downloaded ISO from a friend. Maybe this will work... Fingers crossed : D

I've tried so much to get this to work and nothing has worked so far. What type of DVD did you burn it on? And what brand? As is noted in several posts and threads, DVD-R is a lot more reliable than DVD+R, and Verbatim tends to be the most reliable brand. Let me know if you have any luck.

Hmmn yer... Well I went to the Video store recently to hire out the official copy so I could get past the point where my USB Backup fails and test it from there, but someone had already hired it out before me. So instead I ended up with NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams... I don't like it XD $6 wasted, especially since it's too large to fit on my current USB device (see sig). Oh well : ( My mate's coming around next week with his copy so it'll be right after that, until then I'll have to be patient and play New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Bros. 3 to keep me going : ) Lol.
