Question running legit NSMB from USB

I have read the tutorials on getting New Super Mario Bros. Wii running, but they all focus on patching a ripped release. I have the original disc and I would like to run it from a USB disk via loader. I can already run the original disc without having to upgrade my system (from 4.0u), and I have tried dumping the disc to USB and launching, using anti 002 fixes and loading the .DOL that has been going around for the IND rip release, but these both end up with a black screen error. Is it possible to run a legit copy from USB?

Also, are there any tools available for Mac to patch the ISOs? Looks like it's for Win only from what I've seen.

    Thanks!

I ripped the retail disc to HDD with USB Loader CFG v45 and it seems to work without patching anything.

I got my copy today from Amazon and it runs just fine on both the disc channel, and ripped to my HDD. I am on Wii 4.2, USB Loader GX rev833.

Even though Dop IOS showed IOS53_v5149 as being already installed, I re-installed it anyway, but no change afterward. Do I need v5406?

Which Wii firmware are you running? I'm still at 4.0u.

How did you upgrade to 4.2, using Wanikoko's "safe" upgrader?

Great, but that doesn't help me then, unfortunately.

I have now installed v5406, even re-ripped the game disc to my USB disk after upgrading IOS53, but still can't get it to run from USB. Using NeoGamma 8, I can get it to load the DOL and get past the initial loading screen, but it gets stuck at the "hold the wii remote sideways" screen and doesn't continue (yes, I've tried holding the remote sideways; doesn't help!).

Do I need to upgrade to 4.2 or something?
