IOS 60 install and preloader on guide with 4.1

    5. THE FINAL STEP

Hi, below I have pasted the guide for modding, bolding the part I am addressing here, and really, the part I am stuck at...I have installed preloader, but NOT IOS 60... if I do install IOS 60 patched, it will semibrick, right? If that happens, do I reinstall Preloader?? I am unsure of what to do here... Some guides make NO mention of this step and this one does, I am reluctant to screw the Wii up obviously...
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET BACK TO ME!!!
    getting desperate here!

    a) If you are on system menu 4/4.1 use Wad Manager with default settings (IOS249 & SD card) to install IOS60-patched.wad - make sure you do this before you install Preloader. If you installed it in step 4 then skip this part. Never uninstall IOS60! You will brick!!

Semi-bricking is caused generally by installing an out of region update while a full brick can be caused by uninstalling a System menu IOS such as IOS60.

Installing IOS60patched.wad now after Preloader should have no ill effects but it'll probably remove Preloader so will necessitate a re-install of Preloader afterwards. Having the patched IOS60 will enable non signed Wiiware and VC to be copied to your SD. Still, you skipped a process in a carefully constructed tutorial and are therefore lucky that you are not staring at a full brick.

    TX for replying!!

Ok, in your wisdom, should I add the IOS 60, and go from there?

Or should I restore to system defaults and start the process over again.

    any ideas....?

    Once again, my humble appreciations.

After a little refresh of my memory from this page http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...re-loader.html (You see I don't use preloader)

It seems you should not lose preloader when installing IOS60patched so even if it goes pear shaped you can still recover by installing it again along with System Menu.

Ok, so I will install IOS 60, and go for it...!

When you say System Menu, do you mean formatiing and going back to 'virgin state?'

Nope. Your Wii's core operating system consists of two parts, the IOS and the underlying System Menu. The System Menu is a file some 25MB in size while the IOS is much smaller at some 2MB or so. The IOS is region free while the System Menu file is keyed to the region it operates on.

If you look at the Wiibrew System Menu System Menu - WiiBrew you'll see that since the early days each update has a single IOS and multiple System Menu files.

What each individual file contains is beyond my interest to find out though.

I was slightly nervous that would be the result.

As per the other thread mentioned you need to now install System Menu appropriate for your region. I got from your top post that you are on 4.1 so it'll either be 4.1U or 4.1E or 4.1J depending on where you live.

I have all 3 in my mediafire which are labelled quite clearly as to which they are

http://www.mediafire.com/tealc99s - In System menu folder.

Choose very carefully. If you are not sure come back and check.

Install the System Menu wad. You will then be able to boot to Menu but Preloader may be gone.

    Ok, I grabbed this one...
    4.1U-RVL-WiiSystemmenu-v449.wad
    feels right...
I dont care if Preloader is gone, once I have this fixed I will reformat and
    start over again...

    THANK YOU!

That'll be the USA one. I do hope that's where you live.

Anyway don't reformat as you'll be wasting your time. Just go back to the tutorial at step 5 or whatever it was and install preloader. Then continue, you'll be fine.
