MPlayer CE and SMB

Hi everyone, I'm trying to setup MPlayer CE 0.75 to play files (mp3 for now) off my computer's harddrive but failed to do so, even after reading lots of forums pages on the matter...

Computer: Windows XP (WiFi to the network)
Wii: 4.01U soft modded. (WiFi to the network)

I can run MPlayer CE fine, and it is connected to internet (since I can get the youtube and radio feed to run fine).

My smb.conf file looks as follow:

#Samba share1 (smb1:/)
ip1=192.168.0.155
share1=Musique
user1=Simon
pass1=

(I didnt copy the share2 through 5 here, but they are there in the config file, but unused and unaltered)

- where the ip is the right one (fixed on my computer)
- the share folder name is good too (double-checked through the control panel and computer management)
- the user name is the name of my session (when I click the start button it say "Simon"
- I have no password for that session

The "Musique" folder is shared for everyone without restriction.

I can ping the Wii from my computer without any losses.

When I got to my Mozilla Firefox, I can see my shared folder (file://///192.168.0.155/Musique/).

I'm running out of idea, since I'm rather new to networking and wii hacks, I'm guessing I'm missing something trivial.

I don't have any firewall on my computer, but I do have a D-Link Router WBR-2310. I,m guessing there could be a problem there (since this is the only thing I didnt played with), but don't really know where to begin.

In the firewall setting of my router under the VPN Passthrough everything is enable (PPTP, L2TP and IPSec). There are no other options under there (but the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) which I thinks has nothing to do with my problem.

Please, ANY help would be much appreciated, even the simplest idea, like I said, this could be something trivial.

Thank you in advance and I hope I have posted enough info the get the help. Otherwise, I'll check this thread often today and try to reply to it as fast as possible.

I never needed to put a user name in when I connected through to Win XP. Not 100% sure how samba shares work but it probably looks to the ip on the network and then looks for the share name. Try dropping the username off and see what happens.

I removed the username and still have the same problem "Error reconnecting to smb1".

Meanwhile, I continued my reading and came upon this:
[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

Could this be the problem ?

If so, I need some help (or more detailed tutorial) to install this as my first installs failed (MPlayer freezes upon loading)
- I've installed it using cIOS 249: MPlayer freezes; Uninstalled 202;
- I've installed it using IOS 36: MPlayer freezes; Uninstalled 202;

. I've uninstall cIOS 202 and now it loads fine again (but still cant get SMB Share to work).

Thanks for quick reply though.

If your wii is online, it probably is not the wii. This should work without softmods. Try to delete the share on the pc and recreate it- take notice to the permissions available- that should automatically open windows firewall.

But if it does not work try to add your pc to dmz, just to test. If it works you need to configure the router. If that does not work, turn off the windows firewall to test. Do you have another pc? Is so test from there.

I created a brand new share off the root of my computer (C:\Music) and shared this "Music" folder with permissions all enabled.

Windows Firewall didnt pop up since it is completely uninstalled from my computer (No other software firewall at all).

I tried putting my computer in the DMZ zone, rebooted (just for luck!) didnt work.
I tried putting my Wii in the DMZ zone, rebooted (just for 1 in a million chance luck!!!) didnt work neither.

I dont not own another pc, sry.

Is there another way to just check if the Wii "can see" my computer?

EDIT:

I manage to install cIOS202 and MPlayer CE 0.75 now loads fine, but still no luck for the SMB aspect.

Here's where I installed it from:
[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

used the "hermes cIOS_Installer.rar"
used IOS36 to install
then followed the recommended option for 202.

There are no network tools for the wii unfortunatly. You could setup a webserver on the pc and try to access it from the internet channel- this would let you know if there was connectivity. [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]is very simple. You could also test the share from another application that supports it. There is a list of apps that support SMB [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]. Also you probaly alread know this, but here are direction for [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register].

Try [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] from hbc and see if you can access your share.
