I got me a used softmode Wii, what do you think about it and need some advise

    Hi all,

I’m new in the Wii modding. I’m reading a lot in the forums and great
tutorials from this site and the puzzel start to get together but I still have questions. At the end it became a long message but I give a try

I bought a used and already softmoded Wii. It was softmode with the
instruction from an other site but the installer file on the SD card says HackMii v0.6. I can play backuped dvd games and all seems to work ok. I noticed that some of the newer games give me 002 error’s.

At the end of this mail you can find the version detail. (I'm a noob so got all I found.)

    What I did so far:

I installed the bootmii/boot2 and did a NAND backup, (my Wii is an older serial nr version lucky me )

I tried to run USB Loader GX. Think I installed it right. But ones starting the loader from the home Brew I get a : no USB device xx sec error
I could be that my hard disk is not compatible but first I wanna be sure I'm up to date with the software..

    My questions.

    1. Because I didn’t do the softmode myself I'm not sure if I'm up to date.

2.cIOS versions… How can I check what Cios versions are installed? can I just update de niet rev versions??

    3. Because of the update block option I’m interested in the Preloader
mod. Reading the Hackmii instructions this looks a bit more complicated.
I’m not sure If my soft moded Wii got all the correct cios etc…how to
check if I got a correct IOS60 like the “IOS60-patched.wad” ( this cIOS
version proces still confuses me abit.)

Re-reading the guide and checking the forum, It looks like my Wii should
be on FW4.1 for the Preloader ? I’m at 4.0e. I rather do not update
(yet) because I’m not sure it’s ok to use this tutorial with the
softmode it got now. Should I pass for the Preloader?

4 . I would like to run the games from my USB Hardisk and I hope to get
by the 002 error for some games. ( USB loader GX seems to fix this )
I installed the USB Loader GX on de sd card and formatted a Harddisk as instructed but cannot find the Disk. (on USB device message) I know this could be a disk portability issue, but my question, can it be that I miss a Cios version?

So what do you think about my Wii status when you look at the info below..

    Thx !

The version details I can find on my Wii are the following:

    Wii serial no. LEH187...

    FW 4.0e
    Bannerbomb

    Homebrew 1.06 installed
    IOS61 v1926

    Cios rev10
    IOS downgrade v1
    Wad manager 1.4 install

Wii connect24 disabled (first thing I did)

My SD card looks like this:

    Apps
    ciosrev10installer
    IOS_Downgrade
    WAD_Managerv1.4
    Private
    wii
    Wad
    BUL3g.wad
    CIOSv7.wad
    HBC.wad

    IOS36.wad
    IOS60patched.wad
    Boot.dol
    downgradeIOS35.Dol
    installer
    Wasmanaer1.4.dol

De installer file says the following.

Wow. You sure get ten gold stars for posting all of your info. Some people just say my wii is white and won't work. What's wrong?

cIOS38rev14 is the latest one out. You should look on this site and try to find that. If you do end up installing preloader keep in mind that it will be deleted if you ever decide to update to 4.1, and I'm sure since you obviously have been doing a lot of research on this site (which is refreshing) you know not to do any nintendo updates. Have you checked to see if preloader is already installed? If the person did what I did, the wii looks like it boots right to the system menu, but if you hold reset when you power on the wii it goes right to preloader.

Also a really good loader is neogamma rev7. It has a built in 002 fix, and works with every game I've thrown at it just about. There are links to it all over this site as well. Hope this helps. You're off to a really good start with all of the research you're doing.

junkmailturds is correct, you could benefit from updating to cIOS38rev14-it also works well with NeoGammaR7 and also USB Loader GX.

As you state that you want to check your HDD out go here: [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register]

So you won't have to search everywhere for your installs use this tutorial-download the softmod pack: [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register].

You won't have to do much though. I suggest Step 3D, and 5D. I'll leave the preloader install choice to you.If you want Preloader-the system hacks will work in your 4.0Wii, no need to update to 4.1, but you should install IOS60patched before installing preloader.

The softmod pack download will provide the cIOS38rev14 installer and update a number of IOSes that most games use, NeoGammaR7 is also there-both USB Loader GX and NeoGammaR7 can read games from a external USB HDD. Preloader is also in the softmod pack.

Thx for the fast response !! Ok I will do the following actions.

To be sure I first made a backup of the original files en maps of my SD card.
Empty it and installed the softmod pack download on th Card

Now I will do the following step:

    1. (step 3d) I will Run cIOS38 r14 installer from the homebrew channel, select IOS36 as the one it should use and then select wad install.
(Just curiuos, You say I don’t have to do step 3a 3b and 3c? how does this compare with the instructions of the tutorial “easy-way-get-cios-any-3-0-4-1-wii” Are this actions you do one time during the first install? )

    2. (step 5a) Use Wad Manager with default settings (IOS249 & SD card) to install IOS60-patched.wad
    3. (step 5b) Install Preloader with the homebrew
    4. (5c) Do my hack settings in Preload
    5. (5d) Run Wad Manager 1.4, use default settings (IOS249 & SD card) and install these wads from the 'wad' folder:

    IOS38-64-v3610
    IOS50-64-v4889
    IOS53-64-v5149
    IOS55-64-v5149
    NeoGammaR7

I should be fine by now..

    Two more questions:

    1. Whenever I decide to upgrade the system menu to 4.1 (no Idea why I should) can I just Run the FW 4.1 updater ?
2 .About the SD card. Should I leave it like it is by now (the softmod pack download install) or do I need software from my backuped default SD config (HBC Wad or other Wad files for example)

    Thx for you time !

    Primary

1.Because you already had installed a working cIOS, I knew the Wii had the Trucha Bug vulnerability restored. That is why Steps 3a-c were not needed. If, however, Step 3D fails, then I would have you run those steps.

    2. Your planned actions 2-5 look fine.

    Bonus

    1. Yes, if you want to update to 4.1 run FW 4,1 updater, There is no need to update your 4.0 Wii though. Your 4.0 Wii can use SDHC cards, run WiiWare and VC from the SD, and has the memory efficiency changes, and on-line play compatibility that 4.1 has.

    2. After you successfully complete your softmod or softmof update, most of the SD card contents are not needed. You can back them up to your PC, just as you need before downloading the softmod pack. Make sure you keep the bootmii NAND backup you made before in a safe location-that will restore your Wii in case of severe problems. You can also make NAND backups anytime you wish and have serial backups just like your PC HDD.

The only things you want to have on your SD card for your future use: the empty Wad folder and the Apps folder with the Wad Manager folder inside. That's to allow you to install homebrew apps and wads in the future.

the packs you downladed... if they are zipped or compressed.. just unzip it on the root of the sd card... most packs come wiht everythign in the right spot.. .. if wads put in wad folder... applications put in the app folder... .. if your system is updated... i did 12 wiis in past week.. i updated every single one to 4.2u .. then modded them all... takes 10 mins for the entire procedure.. so easy to do. . i know it blindfolded.. step by step...
just extract the pack on the sd card.. wiht all files on root and in their proper folders... update your wii if yoru going to.. . your choice... click ont he SD icon by the Wii icon. and load boot.dol .. then follow the steps provided... if you need them... il lbe gladly to assit you in what i does for modding all the wiis

If you truly knew what you were doing, then you would neither be saying "if " the files are compressed or zipped nor would you advise to extract directly to the SD.

Further, you would not be advising anyone to willingly update to 4.2. If you do not understand why, then at least try not to sabotage others. The wiihacks staff and a number of our members worked almost around the clock to address the problems caused by the 4.2 Nintendo update. The guides are the result of that hard work-you are benefitting from those hours by easily modding and now claiming to be an expert.

4.2 works perfectly.. no issues what so ever.. eaisly modded wihtout any problems at all. so simple. .. there is no problem with 4.2u system update from wii.. directly from the wii system update... it works perfectly and no issues what so ever.. every game i downladed for ntsc works without a hitch. not a problem at all... and to say if they are compressed... meaning he could of uncomrepssed them again.. and meaning dont put a zip or rar file on the sd card and expect the wii system to pick it up and use it. .. you clearly dont know what yoru doing yourself.. i did over 17 wiis in past 2 weeks.. all updated to 4.2 all modded in 10 mins. . just did one today as well. easyist thing to do once you know what your doing. so simple. no bricking possible. everything works.. usb loader.. neo gamma.. even got all the mario games on wads and installed .. it works amazing. all systems work amazing with the mod on a 4.2u system.

Jeeze, wii hacking is getting more and more confusing with every passing update. What happened to putting the zelda save file on your wii and booting the HBC installer? Damn you nintendo!

Ahh, the good old days. But remember how hard it was to find that simple explanation? Trolling through all the websites, reading blogs, trying to sort through the bad and good.

Nintendo really did a number on their innocent customers with that buggy 4.2 update. It's one thing to have gone after the softmodded Wiis, but they also caused problems with some of their customers wo were unmodded, surprised some chipmod owners, and really got the overflashed Korean Wiis.

It brought Waninkoko back to the fray, though (don't know if you read the announcement that he had left the Wii world). He found the Nintendo update too buggy to use and had to use his own development tool kit materials to provide a safe 4.2 update route.
