Unhappy Trying to get USB loader to work with iPod, impossible apparently

First post, so please excuse me if I'm being a dummy or anything. I've just been racking my brain for like a couple straight days trying to get everything set up on my Wii.

I have a softmodded Wii (ver. 4.2) with Homebrew installed and a bunch of working apps. Did all the cIOSes and stuff featured in

this article ( [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] )

and went with the uLoader article linked to it.

Anyway, I found out about USB Loader GX. I have had some success with playing DVDs on uLoader, but I'm out of DVDs so I figure I'll use my junky 30 gig iPod video as a USB drive. I get linked to WBFS Manager and read a tutorial (don't actually remember which one, but it shouldn't matter for my problem) and decided to try it. I get the manager and attempt to format my iPod into WBFS format. It won't let me (just says An Error Occurred while trying to format the disc or something like that). I format my iPod to Fat32 (just to be sure, since I guess that's the file type you're supposed to have it at) and try again. Still nothing.

I then read that some people have gotten USB Loader GX to format the drive for them. I plug my iPod in, making sure to use the right port, start the wii, load USB Loader GX, and either get black screen or An Exception Occurred! Keep in mind please that since I put USB Loader on my SD card I have not had any level of success with it other than getting it to load to the point where it says something like Waiting On Slow USB Drive.

I am absolutely at my wit's end. I don't know what I could possibly do to get this iPod to convert to Fat32 format. I've tried running it in disk mode, formatting it multiple times, making sure all the administrator privileges are there (Running on Vista, if that's a big deal), etc. I'm starting to think Nintendo didn't want me to play games of theirs for free...

Anyway, sorry about the long rant. It's just been a long few hours grinding my brain about this. I appreciate any help, advice, or hilarious insults anyone can offer me. Thank you.

Hi there, there is a full list of compitable iPods at :

[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

I cant see the 16Gb iPod listed on there but I have to admit I havnt checked it thoroughly.

I had similar issues with my external USB HDD with Loader GX so swapped to Configurable USB Loader, and I must say it works perfectly.

That's the thing, though, my iPod (30 gig) is one of the only two that the site says works. And what do you mean by configurable USB loader? Is that another program? At this point I'll try anything short of buying another USB drive.

Yes COnfigurable USB Loader is another app which I finds works better, supports more drives etc.

Info here: [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register].

If your using WBFS Manager to format the disk, 1st use Windows Disk Manager to create a partition but dont format it, then go into WBFS Manager and select the drive, format it and the click on the load button, that should do it.

Didn't know how to partition anything (Side question, should I need to do that if I don't care about the iPod being an iPod? Because if it's going to play sweet Wii games, I really don't.) so I looked at the Reccommended tutorials section and saw the one about creating multiple partitions on a drive. It led me to download this program called EASEUS Partition Master, which I tried to use, but for some reason (in the case of my luck, NO reason > ) it only picks up my C drive and the backup drive on my PC. I have my iPod plugged in and I get no reaction...

Is there an easier way to do this partition stuff or anything? Thanks for all the help, even if it's not working.

Yes there is, within iTunes you can set how much storage space to use for Music and then how much as USB storage, make the storage bit as big as it will go.

You should then have a xx Gb iPod drive you can format to WBFS and use on the USB Loader.

Jeez, I feel dopey. I really can't find how to do that in iTunes either. I've looked all over the interface. Again, I'm using it on Vista, if that makes any difference (I don't know why it would). Thanks again.

I believe you click on the ipod icon on the left hand side of the screen, then in the main window there is an option to adjust the size for music and for storage.
