Wii goes blank when I connect USB drive

Hello, please help. I use usb loader for my Wii. Modded it myself and it has been working fine for about 3 months. Today I tried to play and the screen goes black when I connect the USB drive. I can hear sound in the background and the screen comes back intermittently but only for a second. If I disconnect the USB cable or turn off the USB drive with the cable still attached, it goes back to normal. As soon at the cable touches the Wii connection with the drive on, the screen goes blank. I can't find any info about this anywhere and it's driving me crazy. Somebody please know what the problem is. Thanks

Make sure you plug the usb cable in the bottom port of the Wii.
Try your Usb drive on your PC and see if it is still working.
You can also try a different usb cable as well.

Thanks for the quick response. It does show up in my computer so I know it works. Also, once I get into usb loader it does show up for a second at a time. The screen will go blank for about 10-15 seconds then flash back on for a second and so on. During the second that it is on, I can see the menu with all my games and I can actually select and play the game. For example, I was able to load Mario Kart. But it still only shows up for a second at a time even once the game loads. Sound works fine inside the game too.

    Wow.
If the drive works ok on your PC....Hmm.
Did you install any soft mods lately?

The only other thing that you can try is to re-format your HD and start over again. But save that as a last resort. Hang in there and see what other help

No, no new mods lately. I added some VC games periodically but not in a few weeks. The USB drive has worked fine since any of those. Also, all the VC games work fine. Problem is only with the USB.

The USB drive is powered externally.

It almost sounds like the drive is gone in to sleep mode.
Check your settings in your Usbloader, maybe the path setting is set wrong.

Can you try the hd on a different Wii ?

I didn't have a different Wii to try it on but get this. I tried it on a different tv and it works fine. So must me something with that tv. Doesn't make sense to me though. Thanks to all for your help.
