What are the dangers of soft-modding?

Other than a brick from a bad installation/uninstallation, what can happen to your wii by soft-modding, more specifically backup loading a game.

Can you still go online with your wii? Does it affect connecting your DS to the Wii? Anything specific? Thanks in advance.

You can still go online and as long as you don't cheat you should be good.

    EDIT: This can also happen.

The only problems would be, of course, a bad installation in any way, especially cIOS (as far I'm concerned). Another problem would be updating your Wii to 4.2, but not so much now since Messie (I think) made a guide for 4.2's (not sure of this). But I think you can connect the DS, play backups, and so forth. A softmod is an addition to your Wii, sort of. Now, if you don't follow carefully or use some guide by a person who does not know a bit of softmoding, then you'll end up screwing your Wii. Otherwise, you'd be fine.

    Hope this helps a bit.

I have recently soft moded my wii, but I think all this need for constant updating is too much for me as I am a noob.

I am looking to make my wii a virgin again, but my wii is only 2 months old and on the guide that was supplied in the forum it says not to follow the guide if my wii was bought this year.

Does anyone know how I would go about making my wii that I bout 2 months ago a virgin?

I know I have asked this before, but i don't seem to have received the correct response.

What would be the correct response?

Anyway update to 4.2, that'll remove all your softmod, stub all your cIOS and render it virgin. A small chance of brick though, especially if it's heavily modded e.g. Region change, cIOSCORP.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Thanks for the reply once again.

I hope you don't think I was having a dig at you, as everytime you have kindly answered a question of mine it has been of great help.

Going back to the question, Is there any way of me manually making my wii into a virgin as I am looking to get a wasabi modchip and I don's want to run the chip on the 4.2 update.

Asides from this tutorial I've never really bothered to think about it. You do not need to downgrade by the way. It's just a matter of using anytitledeleter to remove cIOS and installed channels, although I still fail to see much point in this.

Just out of curiosity, is there any way of recovering from this? For instance, is it necessary to have bootmii? Why can't you just have HBC alone?

You can patch over the IOS that the program is trying to use with an un-modified IOS which should fix the problem, bootmii is incase you brick your Wii and if you just want to have the HBC so you can run emulators and whatever else it's not all that necessary but it's highly recommended if you intend to go further.
