Is it dangerous to update a softmodded Wii?

I have a softmodded Wii with system menu 4.1. Bannerbombed with BootMii and HBC etc. My question is do the automatic Wii firmware updates and/or updates required for certain commercial games pose a threat or have the ability to possibly brick a softmodded Wii?

I havn't had any problems with legitimate games and the updates they install except for the one that came with The Conduit, that removed cMIOS from my Wii but that was easily fixed by reinstalling it.

If you hang around the bricked issues forum you'll probably come across a few 'updates bricked my Wii' stories. Usually it's because they stupidly updated using a foreign region disc or downgraded their System Menu beforehand.

As long as you stay ahead of disc updates then you should come to no harm. It's always good to have bootmii/boot2 protection just in case too.

    hi Tealc,
downloaded the Autoboot_Wad-Manager-iso.rar fm ur sign. but, couldn't unzip with WinRAR and burn it into dvd-r.
when ImgBurn was applied for dvd-r burn, got error "invalid or unsupport image file format".
pls enlighten me how to proceed.
    thx.

Works fine for me. Haven't burnt or anything as I haven't bricked my Wii but I can open with winrar and extract the 4.37GB iso file. I have since opened the file in ImgBurn and it even identifies it as PARADOX ISO WADMANAGER.

    So, download again perhaps?

    Thx for advice.
downloaded 3 times, file size at 1,866KB.
WinRar showed the size as 4,653,056 and patched 1,910,414. after extraction, show WAD-MANAGER-ISO[AUTOBOOT] , type WinImageISO at 4,555KB.

ImgBurn rejected to take: "invalid or unsupport image file format".

It's now dangerous to update your Wii using official update.

4.2 is released and will remove all your homebrew and custom IOS.

If I have 4.2U and have games from a torrent site on my USB HDD will these games have automatic updates in them?

    Thanks!
