First thing to try-start Wii, wait for sysmenu and then plug in USB HDD. Also, use the outermost USB port on the Wii (bottom or left depending on Wii position). I presume you already checked and the HDD is compatible with the Wii?

Format the HDD with a WBFS Manager and also make sure your using the latest version of USB Loader GX.

Both of which can be found at these adresses:

Downloads (USB Loader GX) (scroll down for the WBFS Manager)
    Revisions (USB Loader GX)

I think from re-reading your post the terms mounted an image suggest you may not have prepared your HDD and PC:

Your HDD will probably come already formatted for "plug and play" compatibility with a PC. Instructions for WinXP:

    1. Plug your new USB HDD into PC
    2. Right click on My Computer
    3. Go to Manage
    4.Click on Disk Management
5.With your disk drive loaded and visible: right click on new HDD and choose delete volume (or partition-the one you want Wii to use)
    6. Right click on new HDD in lower part or graphical portion of window and click New

    7. a)Choose to assign a letter to your new drive
b)choose NOT TO FORMAT when you create your new partition [note that you can choose size of partition-you can leave some for FAT32 or NTFS in a later step]
    c) make your new partition primary and active
    8.Run WBFS Manager 3.X
    9. Select your new drive letter and click Format.

Now to the Wii: plug your WD HDD into the lower or left USB port depending on Wii position. Boot up Wii, from sysmenu activate USB Loader GX. To rip game disc from Wii, push (+) button and insert game disc into Wii drive.

[You can either use WBFS Manager or go back to your PC to format the non-WBFS partition if you chose to create one-your choice on format. However, just remember than FAT32 cannot handle files >4GB, NTFS is required for that and ISOs and movies are often larger than 4GB]. To transfer ISO's from PC to WBFS-formatted drive use WBFS Manager. Load your Wii drive (select drive letter from WBFS list). Right hand window-browse, locate ISO and select ISO. When it appears in right hand window-select the game title, click add.

If your Wiis connected to the iternet I believe you should be able to update the program that way but since I only update it manually and since I don't use a channel to launch the program I'm not sure how much help I can be.

In the settings menu for USB Loader GX is an update choice. You can use that to update to the latest version.

timer clicks down to zero then bk to SystemMenu, that's ur luck of 'usb-hdd not found'.

delete the USB_loader 1.0 and install USB_Loader GX
apply the latest cios-revx definitely help ISO readings
