Cannot play games on hard drive

I have an external Seagate 1.5tb with a few games I saved on it. The Wii will see and display the games, but when I launch the game, the screen goes dark and then returns to the menu.

I tried copying the games to other drives (WD Passports and a generic drive) and WBFS Manager 3.0.1 wouldn't copy them. I was able to copy using WBFSgui but still have the same problems.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Do you have cIOS installed and what USB loader are you using? For HDDs USB Loader GX and cIOS38rev14 work well together.

Are you copying your games from HDD with WBFS formatted partition to another HDD with a WBFS partition? If so you can clone the from drive to drive or copy individually-load your first drive in the top section of the WBFS Manager and select your receiving HDD in the bottom window of the WBFS Manager Window.

More problems reported with the Seagates working with the Wii than with the WD HDDs.

    Thanks for the response. I have cIOS38r14 and using USB Loader GX 1.5. From what I can tell, my box has IOS 35, 36, 37, 38, 50, 51, 53, 55, 60, 61, 249. I am on Menu 4.0u.

WBFS Manager wouldn't copy the games or clone the drive. A box pops up with a progress bar, but when it "completes" the transfer, nothing appears in the destination drive. Both drives were formatted to WBFS with WBFS Manager.

Also, I cannot load any of the games from the drive or any drive (I've tried 5 different ones - a WD Elite, WD Essential, Seagate FreeAgent, and a generic usb enclosure with an laptop IDE drive).

I have had no problem with WD Essential, Passports, My Book. Make sure the HDD is plugged into the outermost Wii USB port (left or bottom depending on position). Also, start the Wii up first, then plug the WD HDD into the USB port.

The problems you report with WBFS Manager: are you getting ISO's from a reputable source? sometimes there are problems with the Rar extraction. Have you tried ripping an original game disc thru the Wii using USB Loader GX and if that works for you?

I assume my IOS's are in order, and the cIOS and loader aren't the culprit.

If the games are bad/corrupted, would the Wii still display the covers? WBFS Manager displays the covers and their sizes.

Your IOS selection covers the majority of games. The covers are in a different file and are not linked to or indicative of a working ISO.

In your softmod-did you install NeoGamma? Can you start that program and see if the screen displays your IOS249 with version number? Just making sure cIOS38rev14 installed OK.

I edited my post-can't remember what I was thinking now. Sorry-getting tired.

Do you have any original game discs-as I said before we can check independent of the ISO problem by using USB Loader GX to rip an original game disc to your WBFS formatted WD HDD and see if it plays. That get's us around the downloaded ISO issue and rar extracting for now.

I'm not sure what you mean by my "problems are even at the IOS game playing stage". The appear in loader. When I start the game (I've tried many combinations of 002 fix, VID, and other settings - global and game specific), it just goes blank for a second and then returns to the menu.

How can I determine if the ISOs are good?

I was able to copy a few of the games to a smaller 40G drive, but the games were still not playable. The screen would go dark and return to the menu. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

When you formatted the drive, did you make it primary and active?

OK, I just checked several more drives both and all work, transfer, etc.

·1. Plug your new USB HDD into PC
    2. Right click on My Computer
    3. Go to Manage
    4.Click on Disk Management
5.With your disk drive loaded and visible: right click on new HDD and choose delete volume (or partition-the one you want Wii to use)
    6. Right click on new HDD in lower part or graphical portion of window and click New

    7. a)Choose to assign a letter to your new drive
b)choose NOT TO FORMAT when you create your new partition [note that you can choose size of partition-you can leave some for FAT32 or NTFS in a later step]
    c) make your new partition primary and active
    8.Run WBFS Manager 3.X
    9. Select your new drive letter and click Format.

Now to the Wii: plug your WD HDD into the lower or left USB port depending on Wii position. Boot up Wii, from sysmenu activate USB Loader GX. To rip game disc from Wii, push (+) button and insert game disc into Wii drive.

[You can either use WBFS Manager or go back to your PC to format the non-WBFS partition if you chose to create one-your choice on format. However, just remember than FAT32 cannot handle files >4GB, NTFS is required for that and ISOs and movies are often larger than 4GB]. To transfer ISO's from PC to WBFS-formatted drive use WBFS Manager. Load your Wii drive (select drive letter from WBFS list). Right hand window-browse, locate ISO and select ISO. When it appears in right hand window-select the game title, click add.
