    Need help with first game/backup...

    Hi guys,

I'm having trouble running my first backed-up Wii game with the soft mods that I've made.

Just got my Wii yesterday and after reading it through several times, followed all the instructions here perfectly, with the exception of step 5*

I burnt a Mario Kart PAL .iso to DVD-R, and first tried running it in the Disc Channel, and it recognised the game and began to play the music, but when I attempted to start it I got an error screen saying (all so helpfully) "An error has occured. Remove the game disc and shut down the console".

Then I tried playing the burnt .iso in NeoGamma R7 (IOS36 Rev 3094). At the opening screen I got an error saying I wasn't using IOS249 and that I should install a cIOS. By that point I was pretty confused because I thought that was what the guide had had me do, but I still clicked through and tried to get the game to play but got "DVD Read Err (1101) No cIOS".

I realise that this all could seem stupid to someone with more experience, but I have only the slightest idea of what I am doing here, so any help would be AWESOME. Thanks in advance guys

*In Step 5 a), I could not see 'ISO249' in the selections, so I used IOS36 after reading somewhere that the two are same/similar. Also, I got an error in Step 5 d) when trying to install IOS50-64-v4889 (specifically, the screen said "Installing title... ERROR! (ret=-1035)"), but I was told that this was unnecessary/already fixed with the Preloader menu where you can choose to block updates there, so I didn't push it.

you have no cios (aka ios249) - do step 3 of the guide again and make sure it all goes through with no errors.

Thanks for the quick reply. Okay, I went through step 2 again, followed everything perfect, but when I got to the WAD installation step I got this while reading "IOS38-64-v3610.wad":

    Patching Custom IOS, please wait...
    >> Content #15: 01 patches applied!
    >> Extract ERROR! (ret = -1)

    Press any button to restart...

Just in case that was expected, I tried the backup again, didn't work. What have I done wrong/what needs to be fixed?

it may be that the ios38 on your card is broken - download another one, replace it & try again...

oh okay, i just copied things over to the SD as they were in the .rar file i got. so does this mean i should uninstall the WADs i already installed from the WAD folder and then reinstall them, or just copy them to the root and then run the installations again?

The wad should be fine but isn't there also a Network Installation option?

Do not uninstall wads from your Wii unless you fancy buying another Wii tomorrow.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.
