install usb loader gx - do i need to update wii?

    Hello,

I just bought my wii yesterday, it comes with wiikey 2 and the version is 3.4U. I want to download and play wiiware / virtual console games, i read i need to install this usb loader gx first. I havent installed anything yet.

My question is, do i need to update my wii to 4.0 or 4.1 before i do that? what is the best method to update? is there any risk to brick?

and, to be able to play the wiiware / virtual console games, what i need to install is: homebrew channel, usb loader and cIOS, then wad manager and donwload the games, or do i need to install anything more?

    thanks.

You dont really need to update since your wiikey 2 blocks disc updates and once you have all the necessary IOSs which you probably would, you should be able to use USB Loader just fine.

Yes, you can have more then on ios one your Wii at once. The whole "ios" confused me when I was starting out too. There are many different ios's, some are used to play games, some are used to install stuff, and some are used to make the USB ports work. The ios's have numbers, ie ios223, used buy Rock Band instruments, ios249 to install stuff, ios60 used by Punch Out (I think).

Anyway, the Wii already has the needed ios's, you're just patching them to make the homebrew stuff work.

    Here's a good guide for the iso's:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...s-any-wii.html

The guide also has a link to another guide for the USB loader.

    Good Luck,
    -Lawn

You can as wii's even come with a bunch already installed, there are over 200 slots for ios to be written onto your wii.
