    Thank you!
Doing an update from a disc could cause problems, so to be sure, never do it. always update through waninkoko's firmware updater.
Also if you don't want to update, just say no, they won't force it.

i ll double install preloader/startpatch to disable disc updates, it won't work on online ones tho. best solution, uograde with waninkoko

    Ok, thanks!

Will it still be possible playing games online without trouble?

Also, is a newer Wii better than an old version one somehow, or is the only difference that the newer ones are harder to hack?

The older the better however newer wii's can be softmodded. An nintendo doesn't have a system in place to ban you from online games if thats what you mean

I see. Will it be easier to soft mod an older Wii?

It is pretty much the same process for newer wii's however you have 2 extra steps and you wont be able to install bootmii as boot2 which limits your options on brick recovery

I can upgrade my Wii before softmodding it without causing trouble later though, can't I?

Guess that's not such a good idea any more – for the time being.

Does this also mean I shouldn't use Wii Shop (will it automatically without option upgrade my firmware?) any more?

How likely is it that there will be a similar, well functioning hack out for 4.2 in the near future?

Use WiiSCU ( WiiSCU - WiiBrew ) or Wii Shop and IOS61 installer ( Wii Shop and IOS61 installer - WiiBrew ) to update Wii Shop IOS, that way you will only update what's necessary for Wii Shop channel to work, and not the firmware.

I see. Does this mean I have to soft mod my Wii before ever using Wii shop, as of this moment?
