@ Median: The first link you gave me only displays this on the wiki page:

"There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or edit this page."
    Ok, sorry.
This page: Preloader/hacks - WiiBrew - When you have installed Preloader, look up these hacks: Skip disc update check , Region Free Wii Discs , region free Wii games_1 , Region free Wii games_2 , Force Disc Region_1 and Force Disc Region_2 (Lol, should paste the codes in my sig or something, typed them for too long :P ) on your specific region and firmware version, then paste the code in hacks.ini.

And no, Wii Shop Channel will not update your firmware automatically.

I got no results at all for those keys when searching the FAQs (N.B: not the forums).

By the way (I was just assuming this), can you still play authentic, legitimately purchased Gamecube and Wii games as you would on a "virgin" console?

    Thanks!

Four more quick questions: Would updating screw your Wii up, and would it be recoverable if soft-modded. When will you be prompted to update, and will I always be asked before an update occurs?

    Thank you!

Yes,Sometimes it can, when you insert a disc with a newer firmware, as of now yes

EDIT: install preloader or starfall/startpatch and you wont have to worry about it
