Is game save data linked to game media (location/region)?

Question;
Is game save data linked to game media? Specifically, if I swap discs (original disc to downloaded ISO or NTSC disc to PAL disc) or media locations (from disc to USB, etc) will save game data still be valid?

Example; My Sims (MS) played via original media. Shittons of hours spent baking tasty bunnies and playing with fluffy cookies (erm, or vice versa *wince*). Good times. Epic save game created. That's my girlfriend, by the way, not me... never confused... *shuffles feet* Now, if I copy the MS (disc) to USB and play via my loader of choice will MS find the original save data?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on my example or the general question posted. I'm in the process of copying a number of original (and downloaded) discs to a USB harddrive and am curious about the existing save game data. I did do some searching and understand the processes of backing up and loading save game data via Wiiware and the System Menu but could not find an answer to my question. Apologies if this is posted in wrong forum. :)

You can go from same region original to same region backup, or even same region from USB but a disc from another region has a different ID number so although it may be the same game it is in fact completely different as far as the Wii is concerned.

I guess the next question would be...Is there a way to hack the save games to change their ID number.

There exists homebrew to extract and install savegames across different Wiis but I don't know if they give that level of editing.

Looks like USBLoaderGX rev719 does this.

Update: As you advised all of the games were able to read their respective save game data once loaded to the USB HD.

I won't be changing regions nor editing game IDs.
