    Upgrading firmware?

I just softmodded my wii, and I'm running the 4.0 firmware. I was just wondering if its possible to in the future update the official firmware, once like 4.2 or 5.0 comes out, or will that brick my wii.
I also understand that new games might require newer firmware, so if I won't be able to upgrade it, how do I go about it using the softmodding?

Oh and also as far as addon content goes for games, when I'm using a backup DVD. Do they work like normal if I download them or is my wii also in trouble of bricking?

Newer game don't really need newer firmware, they need newer IOSs if you do a official update then your IOSs will be updated and your homebrew might not run. For example if you have a 3.2 wii and a game needs the IOSs from the 3.4 update you can just download the IOSs and install them with wad manager (in this case the IOSs are 38, 53 and 55)
