    Preloader VS. Bootmii

I wanted to get several different opinions on this before I softmod my wii. Which is better or safer for the 3.2v of a wii??? Preloader or Bootmii. Do I need both or is one safer than the other? I have read a lot of threads and a lot of people complained of the preloader semi-bricking or bricking their wii. I plan to follow dogeggs tutorial and I was gonna ask him but he is so busy with all the other requests I thought I would ask here. Just don't want to be a pain and looking for some of your advice. Thanks in advance.

I would go with bootmii if you had to pick one, just my opinion. If you are installing with bannerbomb, you can install bootmii at the same time you install the homebrew channel, so bootmii is more convenient. You can install both if you want.
If I helped you out, Please Thank me vvvv>

It depends, you could even use both. if you can install bootmii as boot2 and make a NAND dump you could practically get out of any brick. But not sure what if bootmii blocks disc updates so you can try installing boot2 first then make a nand backup if anything goes wrong with preloader just restore but i dont think there is a high chance preloader will brick. Also installing bootmii as an ios could save you if you have semi brick but you would need a way to boot into homebrew but you would need preloader to do that and preloader is needed to block updates from retail discs but if you can INSTALL bootmii as boot2 cause preloader can only save you from bannerbricks while Boot2 can even Save you from most full bricks.

@sonic...that sounds like a plan. I have read that since I have an older wii, 3.2, I should be able to load as boot instead of ios. That preloader has me a little scared. I see that a lot of us noobs up here make quite a bit of mistakes but I have just read way too many preloader issues. If I can run with bootmii I just seem like I am more comfortable. Dogeggs tutorial is the bomb and I am just doing some homework and getting some opinions before I go for it. I know I will be fine been reading for over a week just getting up the nerve. Thanks for your information. Lastly, how do I turn off updates for my version??? I know I use starfall...question is when and how do I install it?? Thanks in advance

Starfall has the same function as preloader. I believe that preloader was written by the Starfall author. Makes sense that you would install at the same point as preloader in the dogeggs guide. Incidently, Starfall is not itself updated as preloader is. I think Dogeggs mentioned that preloader was preferred over Starfall when asked at some point in those >100 pages of posts:-)

@gen3sf...yeah you may be right.....I just got tired of reading through all those comments. Guess I will do both, and just stick with preloader since it updates. Hope I don't mess nothing up!!!! lol. Gonna take a stab at this once I put down this bottle of budweiser. Dogeggs tutorial is the bomb seems like anyone can do it. Appreciate the help.

Run it like any other other homebrew app but just run it once but i dont think you can use both starfall and preloader so you'll have to choose one (if you use both you might brick) but preloader is better because it actually has a rescue menu where you can access homebrew and fix banner bricks. They both block updates. If your wii was made before September 2008 or so it should be able to install bootmii as boot2

@sonic...yes it is an original 3.2 has never been downgraded so I should be good. Just trying to get as much protection as possible cuz this is way more econimical then purchasing these things. My son is 6 and he is the beast with the wii but he runs through his games like water. Gave him Star Wars Lego and two days later he was like "well that's a wrap". So this is the way for a single parent to go. Just want to make sure i am taking all the necesary precautions cuz if i $%#@* it up ...I sure cant afford to buy a new one!!! LOL. Like I said I have been reading for a week just getting myself ready for the next step and nothing wrong with being informed. I really thank you guys alot for ALL of your help.

I installed both, installed BootMii as boot2, got a NAND-dump, and installed Preloader also, since it can make the Wii regionfree!
