LOL if it was gonna brick your wii it would not be suggested. Upgrading to 4.1 will give you the latest firmware update so you won't need to worry about upgrades from N. More important, it will give you the option to install preloader (it is not supported in 3.3 and 3.4 firmwares), which is recommended, as I don't think you were able to install bootmii as a boot2. Preloader will be your safety net against bricks!

Attention: I am always talking about the waninkoko's update NOT the original update! it is quite risky to apply an update from a disc when your wii is modded!!

Make sure you use his 4.0 upgrade first. You can find it on his blog at teknoconsolas.

EDIT: Also make sure that Waninkoko's updates support E systems. I have never gotten a answer on that

I used his Waninkoko's update to 4.0 and I'm on 4.0E. It seemed to work for me.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Also isn't it possible to go straight to 4.1?

I did the 4.0 to 4.1. But reading from othe posts some users have had issues going from 3.x to 4.1 without doing the 4.0 first

Did you do 3.x->4.0->4.1? Well no guide I found mentions sth like this and I have not done it myself so dunno to be exact. Yet Dogeggs in his All-inone guide

You can try it but to be on the safe side i would do waninkoko's 4.0 (takes about 5 minutes) then install waninkoko's 4.1 (takes about 5 minutes). So it will take an extra 5 minutes but its better to be safe then sorry
