I'm the same as you, I've looked around and found a variety of answers. Me personally, I juts leave it on, although I unplug the console when I'm not playing it. That way I can access features inside games that requier WiiConnect24, but don't have to worry about it auto-updating or heating up by keeping the slot lit up all the time.

It makes no difference if you leave it on or off. And there is no such thing as an 'auto-update'. You have to accept an update for it to happen.

I leave wii connected 24 on 24/7, I also have the slot light always off, can't see the point.

I wondered what my blue light would just flare up some times, it has to do with wii 24?

I found the blue light annoying, flashing on intermittently, with it off the Wii barely gets warm.
