    A Little Help Please...AC:CF hacking?

I am trying to hack my animal crossing city folk game. finally got everything i "thought" i needed. Homebrew channel is installed on the wii with bannerbomb as i have update version 4.0. i downloaded ac toolkit version 1.3 tried to save my game to an sd card and got this message "Dumping Save Game Data Error (RET= -1)! can anyone tell me what that is and how to fix it? i've searched forum after forum and cannot find any info on this. If i've overlooked something, i appologise, can you send me a link to the thread i may have missed? I just want grass and a windmill..nothing fancy.. can anyone help??

I'm a noob too, but I'm trying to follow your same steps. Do you get the error on the Wii or when you try to save the modified rvforest.dat file on your PC back to the SD card?

I think that's part of the problem...I've been reading here about v4.1 vs 4.0 (the version I have). I think Nintendo can send mods over wifi and "upgrade" your system without you knowing it. You might do a search here on 4.1 and see if you need to "downgrade" yourself. I just read a sticky above that warns downgrading to 3.2. Maybe you can downgrade back to 4.0 safely. Again, I'm a noob too but don't want any error codes when I install HB channel.
BTW, I thought the "repair grass" feature of AC toolkit was very slick! I tried it on a sample rvforest.dat file I downloaded.

see i thought the same thing.. one click and grass is restored, flowers are restored..its perfect.. its why i want to hack so i can go on vacation, not take the wii because the game is all in real time and if you dont water daily it all dies, if you time travel to catch up, your grass disappears to a desert and looks like crap..but i guess nintendo decided to fix the hacking with updates. i heard there is a way to turn off updates but i dont know how.

Yes - the tool kit is great and I've now discovered how to add bridges too! If you hover over certain coded spots in your town, you can find "bell" rocks, "bee" trees and pitfalls. I haven't tried moving buildings yet, but again, all this is on the sample file and not my town. Someone found out that you can create an error in the game if you don't have the town hall and Nook's plotted somewhere. That makes me sceptical of making major changes. The only thing I wish the tool kit had was an "undo" feature.
BTW, did you find out what caused your error and did you do a downgrade back to 4.0?

no, i did not find out what caused the error and i dont know how to downgrade back to 4.0 but i would love to find out how.. you see, i am really really new to this whole hacking thing and ive read many threads and forum posts on how to and i did everything to the letter but i think the problem was my system automatically updating itself..which stinks because i really need to hack this game because frankly, i dont have time to play it every single day and why on earth would nintendo make a game that requires you to actually water flowers daily or they die?? why cant it be like any other game that you play when you want to or when you have time..??? so this is why i really need to hack this game and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would PM Modderman or Dogeggs as both members seem to know a lot more about the downgrading process. I can say that if you don't wifi, you can turn off the online access on your Wii preventing Nintendo from automatically updating you again. Either that or follow the threads here on living with 4.1 and Homebrew. As a noob, I'm sorry I don't have the method for a proper downgrade, but I have to agree on AC:CF being a real pain to maintain!! The toolkit works great for restoring grass and reviving flowers...much easier that trying to do it in the game.

Sure go ahead and PM them and see if your still a member of this site! LOL
PMing MODS is the biggest rule breaker....
PLEASE SEARCH, READ, AND THINK BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

thank you..i will look for those threads and try to gain an understanding of the info. I do agree that the game is high maintenance and for adults with not a lot of time, its not a lot of fun unless you hack
