    wii Mod Newb q's

I have gone through all the tuts and I am left with a few questions:

    1) Can I install the homebrew channel before i install a modchip? Lets say, 2 week difference.

    2) My wii has got ver 3.4u. I see that 3.2 is the most popular goto firmware. However, people are wanting to upgrade to 4.0 and 4.1? I understand that 3.2 is better for homebrew and it has the same features as 4.1 and 4.0 (I believe). And are you not able to upgrade to 4.1 with a downgraded 3.2?

    3) with a virgin wii, what would you do to is to start off and what apps/programs ect would you recommend. My goal is to run backup games, and emulators/roms, and also want the ability to play online with my existing games.

    Thanks for the help!

    - Yes, you can softmod the Wii, which I would recommend over a chip, you never have to open your console. Say you have a HW failure and still have a warranty, you throw that out the window with a chip, with softmodding you can revert to OEM and send it in.

    2)
    - I have upped and downed a few times, I like 3.4u but went to 3.2u just for the custom themes, you can do the same with 4.0. It's just a matter of preference. I haven't touched 4.1 yet.

    3)
    - After you downgrade(mod), I would get BootMii or SoftMii(safety nets just in case you brick your Wii, trying stuff out). For apps, Ftpii, Mii extractor/installer, saves extractor/installer, a usb loader(tons of those), gamma disc loader, AnyTitleDeleter, AnyRegion Changer, cIOS Downgrader, ocarina, code downloader, wad manager, wii reader and sdexplorer. There are tons of other apps out there, just depends on what you want to do. Hope this was some what helpful.

*Make sure you ask questions when you need to, nothing wrong with that!

-I am not opposed to chipping, from what i understand its safer from bricking. Do you still follow through with the twilight hack even if you are going to/or already did chip the wii?

-Can I upgrade to 4.0 without downgrading to 3.2? Im assuming i pickup the file somwhere correct?

-If im chipping it, are Brickmii and softmii not needed? Are there any others that i can eliminate as well?

I modded many xbox sets back in the day (4,5 years ago?), im just trying to get used to the file structure and whatnot with the wii.

I havent personally messed with any chips from the Wii scene so Im limited on that, but as far as bricking or semi bricks theres some great apps out there for recovering.

    - Dont believe the twilight hack is needed since its a method to softmod. I have come across a couple of thread where people were using both mods, not exactly sure why though...

    - Yes you can up to 4 without going down to 3.2, I think Bannerbomb should work for that.

    - You might not need them, I would have one of them anyway just to be safe.

Same here, Im an old xbox junkie to, if I had to compare the file system and mods to anything, I would say the PSP, from my experience..

I still use my old xbox with x2.3b lite and XBMC, I only use it for movies and music now days though, makes a great entertainment center!
