Hypothetical SD Card scenario... your thoughts all!
I was reading up on system menu 4.0, and how to load legit VC games from an SD card, at this instructable site:
How to Launch WiiWare and Virtual Console Games from the SD Card - Associated Content
I noted the part that read as follows:
"Enter Wii Options from the Wii Menu. Select Data Management and then enter the Channels section. You will see a collection of Wii Channels on the Wii System Memory. This is also the same place where you can view the amount of blocks available on the Wii System Memory and the SD Card.
Select the WiiWare or Virtual Console game you want to transfer and then click the Move option. Select Yes to start the process of transferring the game from the Wii System Memory to the SD
Now return to the Wii Menu and select the SD option (it is right next to Wii Options). Your WiiWare or Virtual Console game should be there. Click on the game and then the Start option. After waiting a bit for the game to launch, you will be able to play it like you normally would from the Wii System Memory."
Hypothetical question here; and please be gentle, as I'm still a newb, and bruise easy! Anyway... if you already have wads installed to Wii-Memory via HBC and WAD Manager v4.0--like I do--couldn't you simply follow the above process to backup and play those same games from an SD Card? That way, you can free-up the Wii's memory/blocks; that, or what would be the inherent risk of your system "phoning home," so to speak (i.e., "You are a pirate" messages from the system)?
It shouldn't be... and probably isn't... that easy a work-around. But still--your thoughts one and all??
Many thanks in advance!
you are correct!
once you've installed wiiware to the Wii its always best to MOVE it to the SD card to save wii (nand) memory space.
When u wanna play the wiiware, just browse the SD channels screen, click and launch
In actual fact, the wiiware does not 'play' directly from the SD, but utilises the wii (nand) memory on a temporary basis for the game, which is then free once the game is closed.
Oh, and 'phoning home'..............dont worry
Thank you for the confirmation, 1ssac! It just seemed odd to me, Google-searching, that so many people post messages on different sites asking how to play wads from an SD, and not the Wii. I mean, between HBC, Wad Manager, and the 4.0 system menu, the answer just seemed kind of obvious. Yet, not widely documented anywhere.
In any case, thanks for the good news, as newbish as my post probably sounded. Have a most excellent evening!
