Can NAND backup replace a system update?

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, i have been trying to search the forums for an answer but cant find one.

I like to have my wiiconnect24 turned on. My wii is 4.1e softmodded and i have a NAND backup.

Simple question really, if there was an auto update and it screwed my wii, would overwriting the NAND with the backup just restore everything to how it was?

    Many thanks for any replies

It should since the dump is a complete copy is your entire wii's 512 MB your wii should be exactly how it should be when you made the NAND (everything includes channels and save data, etc.
