Can I play virtual console games off a hard drive?

I've been using my external hard drive to play game backups and stuff for a little while now, but can I put virtual console games on it too? I know they'll work from an SD card but will they also work from a hard drive? If so, how can I accomplish this?

Wii games are isos, but VC games are wads right? Can I just put wads on my hard drive and load them up with usb loader gx? I don't want to try anything without making sure it'll work.

As of now, i dont think there is anyway to load VCs or WiiWare from your Hard Drive, I know you can put wads in a wad folder and on wad manager select USB as the source.
