    ERROR! (ret = -1) HELP!!!!!

After installing SoftMii 3.0, my USB Loader gives me the ERROR (ret = -1).

I have updated the wii to 3.2u manually. When I attempted to update my wad to cIOS38_rev12-Installer (ISO38-64-v3610.wad) the following message appeared,
Reading "IOS38-64-v3610.wad", please wait... ERROR! (ret = -1)

When I used SD/USB Loader V1.4 or V1.5 the following message appeared,
    Mounting device, please wait...
    (30 seconds timeout)

    ERROR! (ret = -1)

    Press any button to restart...

Dogeggs, can you please help me?

have you tried using the other usb port on the wii and checking if your usb device is recognized?

seems like you need to install cIOS 249 .... ie cIOS38 rev12, but you are having trouble getting this installed

    • first try a different version of wad manager to install the cios
    • then try using a different sd card to install the cios

-1 errors are normally telling us that something is missing. In the case of cIOS installer it's normally the wad file is in the wrong location. In the case of USB Loader it can mean the USB system is not loaded, probably due to the cIOS not being installed correctly.

Move the wad file to the root of the sd card and also create a copy in the wad folder just in case and attempt to install it again. You could always try choosing network installation instead of wad installation which should work too.

Yeah in all my trials, even with the Wad file present, the network installation always seemed to work a lot lot better than the the Wad installation. That an Wad manager 1.4 has never given me problems when wad manager 1.3 would give me a ton of problems.

    RE error posts

I had a load of error problems when installing homebrew and hacking my wii. most stemmed from not being able to install cios 249 (whatever that means). i found that as an intelligent noob the best sollution was to use a combination of truchas bug installer and wad manager. use trucha to downgrade ios15 to version 257 (?) then install ios36 version 3094, then wad manager 1.4 to install all new wad files (ios 36, 38, 53, 55, 249) then trucha to re-upgrade ios15 to version 266 (?). hey presto all sorted! use dvdx when you install homebrew and you will also be able to play copied dvds aswell as copied games

i will try to find out exactly where i got the files and instructions, failing that if someone can explain where i can e-mail the files or upload them to i will copy my sd card and put with a text file with a step-by-step on how to do it

Thanks all..I was able to install the cIOS38_rev12 through network. It was a struggle because i don't have internet.

However, when I launch the USB Loader v1.5 after the installation, I received the warning:

    No WBFS partition found!
You need to format a partition.

Press A button to format a partition.
    Press B button to restart.

I have the exact same WD Passport that was working before I tried to install the Softmii.

Can someone please help me? I really need to get this working again for my nephew and niece.
    thanks

Another Wii messed up by Softmii.

Can you load the wbfs drive in wbfs manager on your PC?
