..did I see somewhere a link to a save game file for Mario Galaxy to allow you to get past the choppy intro that crashes the game?

The choppy intro is due to the read speed of burnt media. Unless there's a patch, which i've personally never seen, to flat remove the opening sequence from the game, there's nothing that could do it otherwise. Either use retail or USB.

if your mario galaxy crashes on that choppy intro then you are probably using the really old backup loader....have a search for neogamma and install that :)
