Modchips & Region Patchers
Hello,
I looking into buying a wii console, so now I'm in "learning mode".
As I understand, there are modchips which basically has 2 functions:
1. Allow playing burned "backup" games.
2. Allow playing games from different regions (with 90% success).
On the other hand, there are Region Patchers which allow changing the region of a specific game ISO.
In order to play that ISO, you need to burn it and use the disc in a console with a modchip.
This confuses me a little. If you already have a modchip, why would you need the Region Patcher ? The chip should take care of the region differences, right ?
But if you don't have a modchip, you won't be able to play the region-patched ISO...
So, why do we need the Regsion Patchers in the first place ?
