Wii V3.4e - Problem when doing Custom IOS installer

Hi all,

My friend just got himself a Wii, and he pass it to me so I will load up the HBC and USB loader for him.

I also have a Wii, and have successfully performed this already. So I think I know what I'm doing. ('think' being the operative word)

When I looked at his Wii, firmware is up to 3.4e. So I downloaded some HBC files that are believed to be compatible with his one.

Ok, so I got the HomeBrew Channel working. I am now up to the part where I have to perform Custom IOS installation. When doing so, I get an error message: "custom ios could not be installed! (ret = -2011)".

I have tried cIOS36 and cIOS37, neither of them work, so now USB loader does not recognize any harddrive. I have been searching a lot of forums, I'm more confused than when I started. Everyone has some comments, not a complete guide.

My questions are:
a) Is there any cIOS loader that works for Wii V3.4? if so, could someone give me a link for download.
b) Is V3.4 really not Homebrew-able? (Some forum say yes, some say no) I got the Homebrew Channel working, it's just the cIOS now.
c) If V3.4 is not Homebrew-able, how do I perform a downgrade to V3.2? Again, different forums have different little bits of information. Having one site, with one set of instruction and downloads would be fantastic.

Thanks for listening to me rumbling on

Read tutorial section there is a number of different ways of doing it. My personal would be to use a package like Wii Softmod for Dummies or similar that allow you to take it back to 3.2E using Nintendo Server. Then you can either leave it at 3.2E and install Starfall or Preloader before Custom channels to prevent Non recoverable Bricking or Upgrade it back to 3.4E or even 4.0E.

Please read tutorial section first there is a wealth of knowledge available

3.4 has no vulnerable IOS so you have to install [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] on it then use that to install a cIOS, if you do step 2 of [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] you should be good to go.

Hi folks, especially Dogeggs,

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the SD card zip, and tried to follow the steps as best I could. I have failed at the very 1st step.

a). Open the Homebrew Channel, load Wad Manager 1.4, leave settings as default, select IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad and install it, then restart your Wii.

During this, I get an error (ret = -1). I'll type up a sample of what I see in the WAD manager 1.4:
[+] Selected IOS version: <IOS36>

>> Wii SD Slot

[+] Mounting device, please wait... ERROR! (ret = -1)
Press any button to continue...

I looked at the same of what the SD card file structure should look like, everything's fine. The IOS16 file is also place in the wad folder.

So what could have gone wrong??? I don't even get to select IOS16 to start any installing.

Hi all,

I found out what's wrong with my previous attempt at installing cIOS. It was because I was using a micro SD card (Stupid friend, giving me extra problems).

I tried now with a real SD card from my camera, and the installation steps worked 100%. Thanks Dogeggs!

So I can confirm that this [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] works 100%, word by word. Great work.

Hi to all.. And sorry for my english.
I know it is no good...

I need a little help.
I try to hack my wii (3.4E fw) following this step:

1) turn off wiiconnect 24
2) i install the banner bomb pack from a sdcard.
3) i install the home brew channel and the cIOS36(rev 10) with the IOS36-64-v1042.wad

But when i try to install the new cios i've got an error like:

Could not install custom cIOS (ret = -4100)
anyone can help me??
Can i follow the step of your guide also if i've installed the hbc with another cIOS or is dangerous for my wii??

Thank's in advance for all...
