Been reading about softmod, is modchip the way to go?

ive seen there can be alot of problems with softmod it looks like. Anyone use the drivekey? i was looking at it and it seems pretty easy to install. Is it full compatible with all games. With a modchip how does that work with games coming out in the future?

With a modchip you just update when a disc asks you too. (Other then out of region).

If you're comfortable installing a modchip, go for it. But don't let softmoding scare you either. Provided you're literate and can follow steps in chronological order, you're fine.

Both can play any game out. The softmod'ing will just require a few work arounds at times. Sometimes a new release will come out and give problems for a day or two, then some genius some place will figure out the correct sacrifice to the gods to get it working.

If your gonna buy a mod chip do your homework on them first. I didn't and now I have a drivekey I'm not using because I found softmodding was pretty simple and using this method allows you to archive games on a USB drive rather than using DVD's.

Just follow the tutorials, I am proof that is is VERY hard to brick your Wii. I have done some crazy stupid backwards things and it still works.

    Good luck man.

Now if I can only figure out out to get these PAL games I downloaded to work on my N

if you where big-ish into the psp scene then with plenty of reading softmod should offer you not too many problems and will be more fun. if you just want to play games with no hassle (other than fitting) then chip is the way to go for sure

Why are you reading this? its always the same!!

Set 'Force' to NTSC (in your loader). As long as it's not Pikmin2, Little King Story, or a small handful of others -- it'll work fine.

edit: Also, it doesnt hurt to just globally set your loader to always force NTSC. Easier than configuring it on a game by game basis.

Personally, I think the softmod works fantastic. I have never had any problems running any of the games. Installing the HBC via the Twilight Hack was easy. Downgrading to 3.2U was a breeze. All the HB like Starfall and DVDx are fantastic and the cIOS revisions to run backups all work like a charm. Currently I am playing all my backups from ISO off a USB HDD. I am loading it thru a WAD on my menu that points back to the USB Loader 7.4 in the HBC. I am running the cIOS rev13b. PAL, NTSC, JPN all work. No issues with having to update the system menus, no 001/002 errors. No green screens. Just seems to work flawless. I have no reason to modchip my Wii and void the warranty. All the softmod is easily removable.

    Just my two cents...
