according to a torrent site the solution is here.

i will not post the site, however ill give a taste, here is the instructions according to the uploader...

    Hi

"YES THERE IS A SOLUTION TO INSTALL HBC ON A VIRGIN WII ON 4.0!!

NOTE: If you Have a lu64 Wii this will not work.

    WHAT YOU NEED:
    Install_HBC_on_4.0 -included
    IOS35-64-v1040.wad -included
    cIOS36.wad - included

    STEP 1
Copy the "apps","WAD", and "Private" Folders to the root of your SD Card And Then add the IOS35-64-v1040.wad to the "WAD" folder on your SD card. Than after that open up the "apps" folder on your SD than open up the "CMDVDX34" folder and Copy the boot.dol and paste it on the root of your SD. Now take out your SD card and were ready to go!

    STEP 2
Put the SD card in the SD slot in your wii, and then turn on your wii than go to Wii Options, than go to Data Management then select Channels then select SD Card then you will get a message saying "Load /boot.dol?" select "Yes" then CMDVDX34 should pop up and you should have a Downgrade IOS35 option to patch IOS35 to a lower revision. when it does finish Downgrading press the Home button on your wiimote 2 times again then we go on to the next step.

    STEP 3
Take the SD card out of your wii and put it back in your PC again and then Delete the boot.dol on the root then open up the apps folder then open up "Wad Manager" folder and copy Its boot.dol and paste it on the root of your SD card and then take your SD out of your PC and put it in your wii and then boot up Wad Manager like you did with CMDVDX34 then when you boot up Wad Manager Install "IOS35-64-v1040.wad" and then when you install it hit the home Button 2 times and then restart your wii and then boot up Wad Manager again and this time install cIOS36.wad and then rest your when its done installing, then We go on the next step.

    STEP 4
Take out your SD card from your wii AGAIN and then delete the boot.dol from the root of the SD card then Go in to your apps folder the open up the IOS Downgrader folder and copy the boot.dol and paste it in the root of your SD and then put it back in your wii and then boot IOS Downgrader like you did before with the other dol's and when you boot up IOS downgrader press A on your wiimote and let it downgrade, it may take a few moments. then when its done downgrading press any button to Restart and then take your SD out and put it in your PC one more time and delete the boot.dol and then go to Wad Manager's folder in the apps and then copy Wad Manager's "boot.dol" file and paste it on your root. not put it back in your wii.

    STEP 5
Boot up wad manager like the other apps then when you get to Wad Manager Install "HBC.wad" and when it finishes installing press the home button 2 times and it will restart your wii. and hbc should be there!

well the torrent was removed, this is either due to the fact it does not work. Or the author does not want it available yet.

    UPDATE:

    Hi,

here is the second way to get 4.0 virgins modded.

    "# Warning! #

If your wii console’s serial number starts with LU64 and above then please do not try and use this hack without chatting in irc. #bannerbomb or #helpmii on irc.efnet.org

    # Setting up your SD card #

-Backup all data off your SD card. Then format it to FAT32 to remove all the data on the card.

-Extract the BaNNeRBoMB exploit and copy over the folder entitled “private” to the root of your SD card.

-Now extract the hacks package and copy over all the folders except “_MACOSX” as this isn’t needed.

    # Installing cIOS #

-Insert your SD card into your wii console.

-Run the BaNNeRBoMB exploit. (See my previous post if you are unsure.)

-It will start downloading the cIOS and will install it. Hit A when prompted to exit the installer.

    # Preparing the SD Card for loading the HBC #

    -Rename “boot.dol” to “bootold.dol”

    -Rename “comex.dol” to “boot.dol”

    # Preparing wii for loading the HBC #

    -Run BaNNeRBoMB again.

-On your wii launch “Downgrade IOS35” first. (It will download some files from the internet.)

-Next run “PatchMii” (This again will download and install some content.)

    -Run “DVDx”

    # Preparing SD for HBC load #

    -Rename “boot.dol” back to “comex.dol”

    -Rename “wad.dol” to “boot.dol“.

    # Installing the HBC #

    -Run BaNNeRBoMB

-It will launch WAD Manager 1.3, agree to the disclaimer.

    -Select SD card

-Select “HBC.wad” (+ button to select then A button to install.)

-After install press the Home button to reboot the wii.

That’s it, you should now have the homebrew channel installed on your wii console!

    # Troubleshooting #

Some common errors will be listed below:

-Homebrew Channel doesn’t launch, this is because your wii needs IOS36, download it and run it using BaNNeRBoMB. Then your HBC should run fine after doing this.

-When installing DVDx your wii may go to a black screen and freeze there. That’s fine, just turn your wii off and back on again and continue with the guide.

-3.4+ systems cant install loadmii (so outdated nodvdx). because of that just DOWNGRADE CIOS. dont try to install loadmii or nodvdx. it will go fine after you installed homebrew channel and homebrew browser. you can install the latest versions. they are not urgent now.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

FROM here..... get my modkit and using the downgrader, go to 3.2 firmware, then install the stuff like normal.

    Almost....

Ok, i've got a 4.0e Wii with serial LEH2. I also have a WiiKey 1 installed with latest firmware. A couple Wii comp. SD cards and WiiConnect24.

I disabled the WiiKey backup protection, so thats not the problem either.

Sorry for the crappy pics :P

I followed the entire guide and all seemed well, except for step 2 (PatchMii loads but does nothing else)

DVDX freezes on a black screen and after a reset i'm ready for the last step.
The things go wrong: error -2011

I also tried the zip and txt over at EASIER guide to HBC on 4.0 w/out downgrade - GBAtemp.net. It also showed me a good IOS36 install, but then crashed at the HBC install (almost made it to the end)

After this i retried step 3 of the guide here, but had the same result.

Any help is much apreciated !

    @babygotback
I've followed the guide 2 times with a couple of hard resets when stuff froze for a couple of minutes.
I've also tried the guide from GBAtemp 2 times.
My Wii is still in perfect working order. I don't think that regions (e,p,u) matter in this hack.

ok, i put on the sd all the stuff, basically got to step 2, then i hit the downegrade option, it started but then i got a failed to initialise 116 or something, tried again then it said you already tried that. would that mean that i already have cios35 on the wii, even though its a virgin 4.0e?

    ps thanks right eye

would it be ok if i skipped installing the cios35?

starcubes guide worked perfect for me, running 4.0J virgin firmware. Now have the HBC installed

...but cant get anything else working... downgrading etc gives me various errors and USB loaders errors too.

Remember that you need Internet access for this to work.

Using the BannerBomb exploit I managed to install the HBC then downgrade from 4.0e to 3.2e
