I get the feeling you could be from the UK, are you and are your games PAL ?
If so I can confirmed that COD WAW does backup fine without anything need doing to it.
So go ahead give it a go and see how you get on.
So to make a copy of an existing backup...do I merely copy the disk using "SDUSB-Loader_v1.5" ?
Yes m8, start usb loader 1.5 press A to mount drive then press + it will say insert disk. Leave it for as long as it takes. Could be 5 mins could be 30mins.
Once done take your usb device to your pc, start WBFS load drive and extract iso from the image you have just copied. Save to your pc somewhere. Once done you should have iso about 4.37gb in size. Burn it to disk and all going well you have your backup copy.
No... Unless you have a CHIP modded Wii it won't read the disc. I don't know if it will work exiting backup launcher with hooks then going into USB loader or not but really it's faster to simply make an ISO from the backup on your PC.

USBLoader will read and allow you to install existing backups to a WBFS hard drive, yes I have done this, without a hard mod.

Try reverting back to cIOS36 rev8 or rev9, I read on the forum that some peoples were having problems using backup launcher 0.3 gamma while having cIOS36 rev10 installed, but when installing rev 9 then 0.3 gamma Launcher worked fine. cIOS ver9 works fine with USBLoader 1.4, 1.5

or dump via winakos dvd dumper v1.2 "srry i think i spelled his name wrong horrible speller"
Wii dumper1.2 will work too, but USBLoader is so much faster, my new Guitar Hero Metallica took about 15-17 minutes to dump 4.30GB to WBFS drive.

Not true USB Loader 1.5 reads dvd-r discs no problems at all without any chips installed and will store perfectly to usb device/HDD.

Weird... I have no problems on my modded Wiis installing backups - the only unmodded wii I have won't recognize backups and gives an error if I try to install onto an HD with USB loader 1.5 - I shall have to determine why.

It's still much easier to use the PC to deal with making copies or ISOs of existing backups, though
