Hi, new member here. I just read through this entire thread, and I have some questions:

When, exactly, does Nintendo scan one's Wii to see whether or not it has the HBC installed? Do you think it scans when one attempts to log in to the WFC, or might it be able to scan at a more discrete time --- at the worst, any time that the Wii is online / connected to WiiConnect24?

I ask because I'm interested in using the HBC for offline hacks (SSBB Stage Editor codes and possibly Brawl+ codes), but I don't want Nintendo to detect me hacking and ban me. <_> I'm not that interested in online codes ATM, but there's a lot I want to try offline...

So, I take it the best way to avoid being caught is to not cheat online, and delete the HBC, but keep the GeckOS as a separate channel for offline hacks? Is it possible to use GeckOS, and delete it later without leaving ANY trace of hacking (aside from suspicious in-game records, etc.)? I read that certain programs leave behind "evidence" even after they are deleted.

Summary:

1.) When, exactly, may Nintendo scan a Wii for HBC? Anytime as long as WiiConnect24 is on, or only when logging into WFC...?

2.) What is the hardest-to-detect method of using GeckoOS codes offline? (Isn't it possible to simply boot the codes through Twilight Hack each time?)

3.) Which programs (besides HBC) leave behind detectable traces even after they are deleted? Is any such content impossible to remove?

Here is ARM1's response to question #1:

I'm waiting to see if Nintendo will ban me for the second time. If they do ban me again, then that means that HBC is safe on your Wii. That would also mean that my whole theory is wrong.

It's day 4, I'm still hacking, but no ban issued from Nintendo yet. When the time comes, you will know the real truth to this, as will I.

I now think more that Nintendo only look for hacking in rooms, and nothing else. So if that's the case, just hack in private rooms or make sure Nintendo doesn't catch you. Then HBC would play no role in this kind of ban.

I made the call earlier and was called back by a representative about an hour later. He was very friendly with the whole process and is going to unban my wii Tuesday. I reccomend anyone who has been banned to just call nintendo to get it over with. Just tell the person you call in the beginning your mac address and someone will call you back. It's not like you get lectured... too much. XP

No problem. I also found an interesting code for MKW made by a hacker some time ago. This code forces the error 20102 to kick in and block you out of WFC when you have it on. It's there to prevent you from playing online with the codes. I'm doing some research on the code, hopefully we can turn it into a code that does the opposite. A code that ignores the ban and override the error 20102.

Edit: Looks like this will be harder than I thought it would.

WRONG. ALL wifi games that you can get into matches with RANDOM people are being watched. DON'T HACK SSBB, COD, Mario Kart, or any other games where you fight strangers. (Not: You can hack these games, just not when you fight random people! Hack with friends only!!)

You will not get scanned for the channel unless a Nintendo rep sees "suspicious activity". Don't hack when fighting random people, just your friends :P

Isn't that slightly unethical? That is to say the cheaters should be punished, come on why play a game online if youre gonna cheat, just play the damn ai and dance in your undies by yourself. If you don't have the balls to win, beat it. But if I do not cheat online, should nintendo be able to scan my system, ethically and legally? I guess you agree to that when you sign on, but if I own a piece of hardware don't I have a right to use that hardware however I see fit? HBC is nothing more than software. Is it wrong to use a computer to compute? Esentially that is why HBC is there, its meant to enable software. HBC does not imply anything as to what someone is doing on their wii

all you guys have to do.. to ruin everyone elses good time online when playing mario kart.. is not use things that are obviously not suppossed to be used..

ex.. don't use 10 blue shells one right after the other or if you're in first place..

just use like three shrooms and only use them when you go through a ?.. simple as that.. no weird actvity and you still win..

or.. STOP BREAKING THE WII-LAW ASSHOLE!!!!
