    gamecube memory

I want to play gamecube backups, so I know I will need a gamecube memory card. What I was wondering is if there are any recommendations for which ones will or won't work correctly for this purpose...?

There are those dirt cheap ones on ebay that have gamecube in the description and then call themselves a "wii" memory card that come from Hong Kong. Are those really GC cards, because the description is ambiguous? I've also heard some muffled speak of nintendo vs third party. Can anyone weigh in on whether brand is an issue at all?

I just want to buy one and go, rather than order several times (and wait for the shipping time) before I get something that works. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

all cheap GC mem cards were made in mainland China, not hk.
it's a simple piece. never mind who made it, what brand name. u buy a 16/32MB for a penny, and DIY mod it to 128MB, make use of ur grandpa's surplus SD card. lol

DIY tut is available, google 4it.

Yeah, I'm sure it's manu in mainland but it ships from HK. I was just wondering if they're acceptable quality since they're so much cheaper to buy new than to buy a used GC card from someone locally.

And as for mods, the ones I dug up were tying the GC memory to the SD slot which is a fine idea but I don't want to open my wii and I hate soldering and only do it when there's no easy pay-$20-and-be-done solution like buying a real GC card. The other mod I came across was to side the card inside the box. Really nice idea, especially if you hide the wavebird in there too, but again, no real desire to physically modify the wii, even if I do think I could pull it off without help.

thanks for the info though; I hadn't seen those mods. Maybe in a few years when I can pick up a spare wii for $50 I'll be ready to mod it, but I'm not intersted in facing the wrath of the old lady when I fuck up our brand new wii, nor am I interested in the resultant expenditure of an additional $250 to get her up and running again. I'll gladly pay for a n-branded card sooner than risk all that grief.

I bought 3 gamecube memory cards, 128 megs for $5 or $6 each shipped from eb@y. They were labeled as Wii memory cards and they work perfectly in both the gamecube and the wii I own.
