I find it hard to believe that all his disks would just quite working at the same time and be chalked up to degrading disks. I could understand the laser getting much weaker and not being able to read the burned disks anymore...as a more valid scenario. Besides that disks don't degrade that fast unless you are leaving the things sit in front of a UV light source or they just get mis-treated and scratched all up.

Think of it similar to printing photographs........... the ink in your printed photo's fades with time, and the ink on the disks does the same thing.
My guess is that the 6 disks with problems were all stored together....... direct sunlight massively shortens the life of printed disks.
IF JC-Gamer has not done anything to the os of the Wii, by any means ( installing wads / playing one of the later games - without blocking updates etc.)
    What's your guess ??
    That doesn't make sense though.

They were all burnt at different times. My Excite Truck copy I've had since I got the HBC and have been playing it ever since with no problems (about a month). My Call of Duty 5 disk, I just burned 3 days ago. They're both Verbatim disks which take the longest to degrade and stopped working at the same time.

With your theory that doesn't make any sense. It must be something else. Also, I keep them in a CD case in my basement (which isn't warm) and since I don't have a miniature sun down there, it can't be from sunlight. Sure they're stored together but not right against each other. Also, I play Excite Truck the most and it's in my Wii the most. So technically, if it's degrading because of being played too much, then the others should be working. If it's because of where I store them, then all of them except Excite Truck should be not working.

Since neither of these situations is the case, I'm pretty sure it's not a media issue. Any other ideas?

They're not cheap DVDs. They're Verbatims which are one of the longest lasting brands.

Sorry about three posts in a row, but it would be a lot to write in one post.

Thank you for your logic. However, if it was a laser issue I don't think that my non-burnt Wii games would be working. However, they are.

The only way I can see that theory making sense is if Wii games by the makers are made at a lower speed than the burnt games. Considering my games are burnt at 4x, I don't see that as likely. However, tomorrow I'll burn a game at 1x and see if that works.

If it does work, I know my laser is dying. If not,...

    WTF!!!?

They came from the same spindle of disks ? If so they're the same age hence "could" degrade at the same point in time ??

With your theory that doesn't make any sense. It must be something else.

BUT you haven't DONE anything else........... software doesn't alter all by itself .... Are you SURE you didn't tweak ? baby sister played a game and updated it ?

I can tell you that I didn't tweak anything because I was home alone. I stopped playing Excite Truck and went on later to play another game and it didn't work.

However, I tested the games again now and for some reason they all work fine! Conclusion: It MUST be aliens! lol

Serious conclusion: My Wii was on for a long period of time and this caused the Wii to get tired. It probably needed to cool down for it to be able to run burnt games. That's just a theory. Now I'm just curious as to what it is that happened...
