False input with homebrew (only) using nunchuck. How to troubleshoot?

When using wiiflow or snes emulator it seems as if the wiimote is sending a nunchuck thumbstick down-signal so that the games list scrolls by itself or so that my character is ducking all the time, respectively. When unplugging the nunchuck the problem goes away. There are no issues like this in official wii games which makes it a bit hard to troubleshoot for me.

Either way, there's probably nothing wrong with the nunchuck since I switched an otherwise cheap copy for an original one and the problem persisted. The wii remote+ seems to be a copy but works flawlessly in every aspect other than with homebrew apps. Does this mean that the issue is probably with a specific iso version or something like that?

I found people with the same issue in the forums but found no clear answer other than unplugging and plugging in the nunchuck, or to buy a new one.

How do I determine if I need to buy a new remote, buy a new nunchuck, or if I just need to update something?

Remind me, are these official Nintendo controllers (wiimotes, nunchucks)? Being a first-time poster, you don't give enuff information. Did you follow the "Softmod ANY Wii" guide or some other guide? You can post a SysCheck - both the program to do so and directions can be found HERE. Respond with the SysCheck in this thread as a reply.

Thanks for replying. The problem exists with a 3rd party remote with integrated motion+, and an original Nintendo nunchuck (as well as a 3rd party nunchuck).

It was some time ago but I'm pretty sure I used the Softmod Any Wii guide you linked to.

If this problem had shown up in official game titles I would probably have attributed it to hardware, but the games are fine. Hoping there's a software solution.

From the homebrew browser's most recent syscheck version:

Your mod is a little off. It's using IOS61 instead of 58 to run HBC.

I see, thank you. Since I have IOS58 I am recommended to just reinstall the latest HBC before doing anything else?

Edit: At the moment I'm a little confused because my sysCheck says HBC is 1.0.0, while my HBC menu says 1.1.0. In addition, the wiibrew wiki says "The Homebrew Channel is a self-updating homebrew application loader" which would suggest that HBC should have self-updated to the lastest version (which is 1.1.12 according to the wiki). It has internet access but I have not found, or been presented with, any update options.

The 1.0.0 is a bug in how syscheckb13 displays HBC version. If you want to see it fixed, see the b19 version in the syscheck guide that is linked in my signature.

1.1.0 is the version that is recommended if you are modding a Wii. There is no difference to a Wii between 1.1.0 and 1.1.2. The only actual differences between the two are vWii support. We have found over the years that 1.1.2 on a Wii works fine, so if you have it, no need to downgrade to 1.1.0, but if you have 1.1.0, there is no real need to upgrade to 1.1.2 since it adds nothing.

The online updater will update to 1.1.0 on a Wii.

In order to get HBC to use 58, you may have to uninstall it and reinstall it so it uses the correct IOS.

    That's a very clear explanation.

I've reinstalled HBC so that it uses IOS58. This did not solve the problem, i.e. Wiiflow is still scrolling through the titles without any user input.

Is there really a connection between HBC's IOS number and, say, Wiiflow's?

Are there any other options I can try?

Other than Wiiflow uses 249 to execute, no.

You said this was a third party remote. Have you tried a first party one? I'd wager it's just a weird remote, or that Wiiflow isn't liking it for some reason.

I don't have an original remote. End of line I guess. I'll just have to use the old Xbox to run emulators.

    Thanks for your help.
