Question Can Homebrew be detected now?

Now that the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection has closed, making WiiConnect24 non-functional, is it now safe to install homebrew on System Menu 4.3 without risk of detection? I am thinking about softmodding my Wii, but I don't want to risk a brick, especially since I probably won't be able to install BootMii as boot2.

It was always safe lol. The only "unsafe" part about it would've been if you tried to update the system.

If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct

Okay cool. How risky is it to install BootMii and HBC though? What are the odds of bricking from the installation?

I've done it to more than 4 Wii's and never had any problems. Just follow the directions in the guide and you'll be safe.

Could I just install the HBC without BootMii or is that a bad idea? Considering the fact that I would get much less from BootMii installed as an IOS instead of boot2, since I got my Wii at the end of 2008.

Why would you wish to do that? Even if it's an IOS only BootMii, we always have our users install it and make a NAND backup. If you do so and would fully brick it, you could get it fixed by someone who does NAND reprogramming. There are some folks on this board both in USA and Europe who do that. To do what you're saying isn't less risky to your Wii, it's actually riskier.

Okay. Just want to be completely safe. Currently the only homebrew I have is the CTGP Revolution Channel.

Also, on one guide it said that you had to install the trucha bug. Is this true?

    Is that a trick question?
All steps are necessary or they wouldn't be in the guide!!
Read carefully and go for it, you will be fine.
