So I went to go play some Animal Crossing.

And it asked for that dreaded update. =(

All I have on my Wii is the HBC and the Backuploader (Mainly for imports, I'll buy the rest of my games). Anyways, doing some research it seems like an update on my disc won't do any harm to my Wii, since my copy of AC isn't an import. However, I'm the kind of person who has a hard time believing things I see unless I ask myself. That's why I am making this topic. Think of it as a, triple check. If I do the update, will it harm my Wii?

Edit: I'm assuming this will update me back to 3.4u what will this do?

I can't really install anything. My friend has all of my SD card equipment. What should I do?

Don't have Gecko OS unfortunately. =(

However, it seems that the update on Animal Crossing does not affect the Wii Menu at all, and is just something to help with the games online system. I think I'm fine. When my friend comes back from college this weekend, I'll install that IOS you mentioned.

One thing I've never been certain about though, when you download programs that disable updates (Ex: Starfall) how exactly do you change the settings so the updates are blocked? Or is everything done automatically?

Edit: You know what? I'm just going to put Starfall on my Wii. Looks like an amazing program.

it will let you pick what to install
and it should be a game update + 3.3 - 3.4 *people say its both of them and i dont really care to look into it*
but in the end i would just install the IOS or gecko OS...

The reason why downloading Starfall would be easier for me over Gecko OS is because I always have a bunch of family and friends over playing their Wii games and whatnot. I don't feel like having to explain to them that I have a modified Wii and that they should use this and that to run what games they want to play. And yes, I looked up Starfall and saw how easy it was to set everything up.

Also, I'm assuming it's just a general disclaimer and that nothing will happen, but what exactly are the chances of bricking my Wii when going through the process of installing Starfall?

    XDD!!

And I don't think you're an idiot. And with some google searches, it seems like IOS 38 has something to do with AC. Does IOS 38 work with the AC update or something? I wouldn't like having to install a new IOS for every game I play. =\

-.- this is the last time im gonna be polite

IOS 38 = that game update
    thats it...

right now you can install Cios 37, IOS 38, 51, 53, 55... and play 95% of the wii games without doing anything *the other 5 are from random unlucky people, or other needed files*
