Question Lanch channels from SD card?

Hey, just installed the homebrew channel. I was wondering, I have many wii shop titles on my SD card to make space for World of Goo. Of course those aren't launchable unless I shuffle data around and get them on the internal memory. Can any homebrew app launch regular channels from my SD card?

thanks for the fast reply.. though I don't get why you added the ......

I know the Wii can't launch channels that are saved on the SD card, but I figured there was a homebrew app that could do it.

ah, I did not know that. Does anyone know if this sort of homebrew would be possible to make? the wiiware titles all contain a contents.bin. Is this an archive perhaps? (seen some .bin archives on OS X... odd I know...) If so, would a .dol file be in there somewhere?

And I see that is it in fact possible to convert the wiiware titles to a WAD file using the wii filesystem dumper or whatever. From a wad + ticket file, could a homebrew bootable version be created?

I know this is all crazy hard to try to do, and I am likely barking up a dead tree, just wondering people's thoughts on a channel launcher being possible, or the possibility of converting the wiiware titles to regular homebrew.

On the PSP, it is possible to decrypt stuff (system files and whatnot) as long as you do it direct from the system itself (as only it has the key) it dumps the system files to whatever and you thus can transfer them to anything. these files are what have made the custom firmwares on the PSP possible.

If that is possible, I see no reason why launching channels THROUGH homebrew shouldn't be possible, or even converting them TO homebrew. (simmilar to some of the old PSP firmware launchers that could boot a decrypted firmware dump from the memorystick)

I have followed the PSP hacking scene since before the release date of the PSP. Many things seem simmilar. And many things seem possible because of what I saw there.

you want to complain about how its doable, do it to someone whom will do something about it... on peoples care level this is about a 0... and ESP because nintendo is adding it as a feature down the road =P

most people think like this *ignores your whole rant because i dont care to hear how a portable system, and a home console, are the same*

nintendo is doing it... so lets wait
    most CHANNELS are useless...
music brothers... requires the game and just plays music...
    wii fit... tracks your results
    mario kart... tracks place
wiispeak... requires buying something *like anyone here would do that =P*
opera... you got a computer -,_-,
    etc

you got the VC games... but guess what...
you got a emulator for everything, though their not perfect you can play more, and have more space, most people just do that *read posts here*

    Wiiware.... come on
most of them have no replay value, and are usually either INSANE on size, or pointless *space invaders strike back is like 800 blocks for it complete* but most people dont care enough to download many/any

in the end most people are just waiting, if you really want it, find someone to get it made =P

I'm not sure how you managed to take my post as a complaint...

Nintendo may be adding this in the future, but likely with that update they will also break many of our apps/the homebrew channel.

It's dumb to assume no one is interested, and also dumb to assume that a portable system has no similarities to a console. The Wii system file dumper works in ALMOST EXACTLY the same way as the PSP decrypters do, so that right there nullifies your point that "it's dumb to think there could be similarities"

Many channels are useless yes, but to assume that no one has a use for ANY of them is also a useless assumption. World of goo, great game, only available as a channel. It's also quite big, meaning being able to store it on the SD card and LAUNCH it from there WOULD be useful.

Most of the emulators are good, and since I got homebrew (yesterday) I have been using them, but some of the emulators aren't playable or crash often (Wii64) and the VC versions are perfect (especially if I already spent money to get them) Thus again why if I could launch THOSE versions from the SD card it would be awesome.

On another note, dont the VC games use an emulator of sorts? (correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt they still had the source code for all those games, and took the time to port them fully) If thats the case, it could be possible to inject our own N64 dumps (or snes or nes) into these "emulators". Dont call this a dumb idea (which I expect). It may be wrong, if so, let me know why. It's merely out of lack of experience.

in the end most people are just waiting, if you really want it, find someone to get it made =P
Why do you think after you told me it was not possible yet that I asked
could a homebrew bootable version be created?

I know this is all crazy hard to try to do, and I am likely barking up a dead tree, just wondering people's thoughts on a channel launcher being possible, or the possibility of converting the wiiware titles to regular homebrew.
Oh wait, you skipped over my whole post assuming I was complaining and that I was an idiot. Thanks for that.

Now, the question was answered, and I am now asking if anyone would be interested in creating this or if anyone knows where I should ask? Thanks for the help everyone!

no one will help you because once nintendo does it, there will be a patch.. thats just how it is.. its very risky otherwise, and would take a tad longer to make its simpler to wait

True that. I plan to wait too (for the exact reasons you stated) Though on a completely different note if we COULD take the decrypted dumps, then some more hacks could potentially come from using modified versions of official channels. It would be harder for Nintendo to block that methinks. In other words, I'm saying once nintendo tries to bloack homebrew again, maybe this route could prove fruitful for a new workaround. I am not sure how the homebrew channel was possible... maybe through exactly what I said, in which case I am being redundant and completely not helping the real hackers at all :P

    ah well, I tried.

Is there a set release date for the next update that will include SD loading?
