Can I install d2x to both IOS247/248 and IOS249/250 without bricking my Wii?

    Hi all,
Sorry for the lengthy problem description. I'm a noob and haven't done any Wii hacking in 2 years. My goal is to install multiple USB loaders, as Cfg v70 (on IOS 248) boots all my Wii rips with no problems but won't work with Wiiware/VC despite attempts at ISO forwarding, etc. From scouring forums, I'm under the impression that either USB Loader GX or Wiiflow is the way to go for Wiiware/VC booting from my FAT32-formatted USB Hard Drive.
Originally, I followed GAF's tutorial to install d2x v6 with bases 56 & 57 to IOS's 247 and 248. With this setup, Configurable USB Loader loads all my Wii games from my USB HDD without issue. However, all online tutorials I can find for GX and Wiiflow say they require d2x to be installed in IOS 249 and 250 (with appropriate bases). I've used DOP Mii to get rid of stubs on 249 and 250 but am afraid to proceed with installing d2x until I'm sure it won't interfere with my Cfg USB setup, make my Wii unstable, or brick it. Would it be safe to proceed, and would I need to alter any settings (i.e. bases)?
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to lend!

GAF guide isn't very good. You're worried about bricking and you followed that guide?! Do this one. Start at the spoiler found in Chapter 1, Part 1 entitled "Softmods with HOMEBREW CHANNEL installed."

To further elaborate, CFG loading on 248 is nothing more than a setting in CFG's config file. It doesn't matter what slot a cIOS is put in, its a matter of what version cIOS and what base is in that slot. 248, 249, 250, all of those are just "parking spaces" more or less. Our guide puts all the cIOS with the recommended bases in the recommended slots, and gives you the loaders that are set up to use those.

So I should theoretically be able to install d2x in as many slots as I want, provided they're not already used by the system, as long as the bases are correct?

    Thanks for your help!

Yeah, at the time GAF was the easiest guide for me to follow. Fast forward 2 years, and I'm having regrets about it, lol. Thanks for your recommendation. I'll check it out asap.

Theoretically you could install d2x anywhere, but cIOS should always be installed in the 200+ range. Anything under 100 is factory set and shouldnt be messed with unless you know 100% what you are doing. The ANY Wii Guide that nightstah linked you to installs d2x in the recommended config, and all the loaders are set up to use that config for both regular Wii games and NAND emulation. So essentially, right after following that guide you are nand emulation ready (Im assuming thats what you meant when you were talking about WiiWare and VC problems)

Yes, indeed! NAND emulation is what I'm after. Right now, I'm just debating whether NAND emulation is worth the headache of re-softmodding since my current config runs all of my Wii disc rips. Thanks again for your help!

We have a guide that includes Emulated NAND here using USB Loader GX--- which incidentally, is installed by the "Softmod ANY Wii" guide.

Thanks, guys! I successfully followed the guide verbatim to update my softmod as nightstah suggested. My wii isos still work just fine. Unfortunately, I'm hitting a brick wall when trying to run wiiware. GX has been the only program that has run ANY wiiware. Unfortunately, VC games run with sound only; the screen stays black, and picture only shows when i hit the HOME button on the wiimote. I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth the headache to try to run anymore VC or Wiiware titles. Any suggestions on the best methods and loaders to use? I've run across several options in forums: Triiforce USB (can't get it to load my emulated nand right); Cfg Loader v70mod (iso forwarders just go to a black screen and freeze); Wiiflow 4.1(can't figure out how to get the loader to recognize my emu nand). I've read in Wiiflow forums about using Neek2o in some way. I'm using d2x v8 on all IOS slots mentioned in the softmod guide, yet I frequently read of Waninkoko's cIOS rev17. Any suggestions? Sorry for the loaded post.

The black screen issue could be caused from running VC that is not of the same region as your Wii. You are treading a thin line here, WiiHacks does not support piracy. Please keep that in mind when making any further posts.

As far as loaders go, I use GX for my nand emulation needs and have had zero issues. Make sure you are following the guide that nightstah linked you to in his last post.

Thank you for the response. I can understand your cynicism given the potential for ill use of the methods discussed on any modification site or forum. However, please rest assured that piracy is not my goal. I bought a second Wii in July of 2011 to hack so I could import Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story from Europe when they released. At that time, I didn't expect to see those games released in North America. My original Wii was not hacked, as I didn't want to mess it up. Yet, it contains all of my purchased Wiiware/VC which consists of about 20 titles (I can provide a list). All I want to do is have the ability to play those same titles on my hacked wii via USB hard drive so I'm not having to swap Wiis every time I want to fire up a virtual console game. Yes, I had to obtain the WAD files, but I don't know how I could prove my intent past my word. I have no desire to play a game for which I haven't paid. At this point, it almost seems more trouble that it's worth to continue trying to get these games up and running on my hacked Wii, as Triiforce, iso forwarding, and Wiiflow have all failed (likely due to ignorance on my part). No gripe intended, and I truly appreciate all of the help everyone has posted. I simply don't want to give the wrong idea.
