    Gamecube games via CD

Hey everyone, require a bit of help when it comes to Wii Gamecube mods.

I wish to create gamecube backups that I can use because I've either scratched or lost my Gamecube disks. I've done a bit of digging and found that I need to patch the MIOS and other processes related to the cMIOS, which I am clueless about. In terms of downloads, I've only found dead links. If anyone could guide me through the process, it'd be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

We would suggest USB loading vs. making backups. There are two known methods of this: Dios Mios and Devolution.

Each method has pros and cons with it. I have the DM guide linked in my signature and there is also a Devolution guide on the site that can be searched for as well (I'll likely be adding it to my signature soon since it is becoming more popular lately).

You can find the Devolution guide in my signature. As just stated above, USB loading is more recommended than backup discs.

SD loading the games is also an option but SD cards are much more limited in space than USB drives so if you have a lot of games USB is the way to go.

Just to add to the discussion. Devolution as far as I know runs GC games in Wii mode meaning you don't need to reboot to get back to the Wii system Menu, HBC, etc. DIOS MIOS on the other hand runs them in gamecube mode meaning you need to reboot your Wii to exit a game. I would suggest DM for you because as you stated you have, "either scratched or lost my Gamecube disks." While Devolution is a nicer way of loading GC games it has its "downside." As part of its Anti-Piracy you need to verify that the identifying number of the backup matches that of the GC disk it came from. So since you have scratched disks Devolution wont work for you. Other minor differences include audio streaming support in Devolution and the ability to play compressed game files in DIOS MIOS.

That's mostly true, though if your discs or drive are damaged you can, with a great deal of patience, get lucky and have at least some discs verify. However with a dead/dying drive or damaged discs you probably are better just using Dios Mios or, ideally, waiting for Nintendont.

If you follow the softmod guide from this website you are already set up to run backup gamecube discs if your Wii is capable (only the older Wiis will do this). The sofmod guide alreay installs a cMios and with the included Neogamma App you can launch gamecube backups from disc (Insert Gamecube backup on DVD-R media, in Neogamma Launch from DVD). This method has the same audio streaming issues as Dios Mios however.
