Unhappy ext HDD keeps reloading, making the game show "reading disc" message or freezes temp

Okay just recently, I was playing a game from my harddrive, and all the sudden, sometimes it either shows the "reading disc" message, or freezes for a bit. at first i thought it only happen to me on one game, so I figured it was just a bad rip or it became bad recently. However that doesn't seem to be the case, since other games are having this problem....

Also I've noticed when this problem occurs, I see the harddrive going on like it was resetting for some reason...idk if thats like going to sleep mode, or just the idle time is too short or whatever is making it happen...but im hoping someone can help me out.

Im using an internal WD drive that installed in an external enclosure.. so idk what app would work on it.

The hard drive may be going to sleep, which is bad for Wii USB loading.

Check the WD web site for a disk config utility for your hard drive to see if you can disable the sleep function.

When I go to the site, and click for downloads, it shows like a menu to choose what harddrive youre using, I dont exactly know what my model is....If i open up the enclosure so I can take a look at the internal harddrive, would that make me lose all of my data? or is there a download that works with any internal WD drives?

I know for a fact there's a "how to identify your product" kind of thing, perhaps you should read it?

well.....im an idiot.......its not a WD drive...its a seagate barracuda Green 2TB drive...I just opened it up to look at the model number..and....it saids seagate...whoops.. anyways checking the site for seagate now.

I THOUGHT it was WD...but I guess i mixed that up with my PS3 harddrive being WD.. my bad...

anywho, I only found 3 tools that my drive can use but idk if any of them have any functions that involves disabling sleep...you guys know any good ones?

You do understand that drive spinning down may be a controller feature and not a drive feature, right? In other words, is the external enclosure also a Seagate product or something else?

I did not know that...I don't think the enclosure is a seagate product, its a NexStar CX enclosure

If there's a spindown utility for the Seagate, try it. At a guess: it may error out (if it does, you then have confirmation it was intended for their own controller circuitry and not the drive itself).

Idk if there is one specifically for my drive, the barracuda green 2TB...I'm trying out seatools right now though.

EDIT: well that tool didnt do much...just scans and do tests for the drive, but thats it.

That's a fullsize 3.5" HD (and likely not to have a spindown utility which are designed AFAIK for laptop-sized drives aka 2.5")
