USB Loader GX 3.0 goes back to homebrew channel when starting a GC game only with hdd

Using USB loader GX with devolution and setup correctly it boots GC games from a Kingmax 16gb memory stick formatted to FAT32
My hdd that's been running fine for the last couple of years on wbfs and was just for wii games.
I'd been having problems with games getting corrupted
I've now formatted the hdd to FAT32 thinking I could just copy the GC files and folders over to it with no problems
The GC and wii games show up when you start USB loader GX, wii games boot fine with no problems.
The GC games on the other hand give me a black screen and the discdrive flashes 4 times before booting me back to the homebrew channel.
I've tried ripping another GC disc within USB loader GX and it does the same.
If I plug the usb memory stick back in with the GC games on they run fine

What am I doing wrong ?

This is likely because the DVV files cannot be transferred to a new device, they become corrupt if you attempt to do anything with them. You'll have to re-verify your games for the new USB drive, after that they should work.

No need to re-rip them, just launch the game and when the disc drive starts blinking twice in intervals insert the disc for what ever game you're loading. Repeat the process to verify all your games.

I did that it it didn't work, I'll try re-ripping them today

Nope, the GC disc rips fine, it shows up in the list but crashes back to the HBC when you launch it.
    Wii games play ok

    You're ripping retail discs right?

Try cleaning the disc. Also post a syscheck so I can see if there's an issue there.

    Retail discs yes
I can boot with the usb mem stick and rip a game to it, everything OK
Reboot with the hdd connected, rip the same game and it won't play
No forwarders used to load USB Loader, just run from the homebrew channel
I shall google how to do a syscheck and post the results
    thanks
